Not much to say

I keep waiting to update because I figure I'll post once I hear from one of the employers I'm waiting on (had a second interview three weeks ago, have been in intermittent contact with another school), but it keeps not happening. Maybe reporting that there is nothing to report will jar the universe into giving me some information.

Not much else to discuss, really. Not many other jobs to apply for. No travel or other shenanigans planned (and I'm reluctant to plan anything when the job stuff is up in the air). There's a Dragon Age fan meetup in New York City that I'm contemplating. My fic for the DA Reverse Bang is coming along, if very slowly. I've been plugging along on the 31 Day Hawke Challenge, too. Haven't missed a day yet! Unheard of, for these 30-day memes. Predictably, I want to write up the answers for Marissa now, too, and Garrett (my pro-templar m!Hawke warrior, who's just getting into Act 3).

Speaking of games, I finally gave up on finishing the Via Infinito (stupid Chac) and went ahead and wrapped up my FFX-2 replay last week, resulting in predictable Paine/Nooj emotions and plot bunnies, and I really need to write them another story sometime. Then, spurred on by some impulse I don't fully understand, I started a new game of Kingdom Hearts, a game I haven't played in many, many years. Probably I should just wait for the rumored PS3 remaster that includes Chain of Memories (which I have never played), but no. And then, to complete the trifecta of games in process, I discovered that Knights of the Old Republic is available for iPad. Now this is exciting, because I've always wanted to play that game, but assumed I never would for platform reasons. I downloaded it almost immediately and am now maybe 6 or so hours in? So far, so good, although I think I stumbled across a major, major spoiler on Tumblr the day after I began playing. (Probably a spoiler I've heard a hundred times, but never had the context to understand before.) We'll see if it means what I think it means.

According to my local job hunting friends, the job market seems weird. I was about to write a post on it ... in a few minutes.

I need to catch up on the 31 Day Hawke Challenge. The questions are really good but I have hardly read what others have written much less started it myself. I'll get back to it this evening. Also looking forward to meming my alternate Hawkes and reading other alternate Hawkes too. Curious about your Garrett!

I didn't realize that KotOR is on iPad. I think I might purchase it tonight while staying faaaaaar away from spoilers. My gaming plans for the summer feel very bioware centric: replays of DA, first PTs of Mass Effect and KotOR. Might do a replay of FFXII IZJS if I can get it running through an emulator on my new gaming laptop. Suddenly feeling very nostalgic for it.

Interesting. I don't think those trends really affect me, except inasmuch as this jobless recovery is affecting everyone.

My Garrett took shape a little differently than I thought he might. I ended up starting his game over recently, and it went much more smoothly the second time. I am officially Not a Fan of the Anders rivalmance; it seems terribly unhealthy, especially in comparison to the Fenris version.

I've seen you mention FFXII IZJS before, but I don't know what that is. Some sort of international version?

FFXII International Zodiac Job Systems is a Japanese-only (Japan region locked) special re-release of FFXII (from 2008?) that features the English voice acting cast, slightly rebalanced monster stats, and a completely different license board system. Rather than a universal license board, there are 12 (zodiac) license boards that correspond to different classic and revisioned FF "jobs." This makes the game far more tactical during battles. Lots of fun.

I originally played it on my Japan-region-locked PS2 when it came out. I believe there are now (very unofficial) patched emulator versions of it, playable on the PC, that translate the games' UI into english.

whatever's going on with them, I hope that they'll get back to ya soon. It could be they're structuring things over the summer so that they can plan fresh for Fall semester. Though, I hope it's not like they're going to suddenly get back to you in August.

Kingdom Hearts re-play eh? Must be all the "SIMPLE AND CLEAN IS THE WAY THAT YOU'RE MAKING ME FEEEEL TONIIIGHT" posts.

I trust the school where I interviewed most recently to let me know either way by the end of the month at the very latest. The other school has been a communication challenge from the beginning. You might be right about the timing issues.

I'm sure all the excitement of the KH3 announcement has something to do with it. :)
