Adventure Time: January Blogging Meme

Today's question, from [livejournal.com profile] iamleaper: "If you yourself had to go on an epic fantasy video game-style adventure and you could pick 7 fictional video game people as your companions, who would you choose and why?"

Although this list includes many of my favorites, I also thought quite a bit about creating a balanced party that could deal with many different types of situations, and also about who might work well together.

1. Chell, from the Portal series. For her competence and quiet strength. Plus, I don't care what kind of adventure I'm going on, a portal gun is almost certain to come in handy.

2. Paine, from Final Fantasy X-2. For her sword, and more quiet strength, and her total loyalty. If she has some dresspheres, even better: flexibility is good.

3. Alistair, from Dragon Age: Origins, because, well, do I even really need to justify it? ;) No, okay, but he's also a really fantastic tank, which I need because I am squishy.

4. Is it cheating to say Commander Shepard? Because talk about competence. Also, my Shep is an Infiltrator (distance shooting plus tech use), and I need a good ranged type. If it is cheating, then I'll bring Garrus instead -- his skill set is quite similar, and he's just about as good.

5. Ashe, from FFXII. I typically spec her as a paladin-type -- white magic and a sword -- and we could use a healer here for sure. There might be some issues of who takes charge between her and Shepard, but I suspect once they work them out, they could make a fearsome team.

6. Vivi, from FFIX, because this team needs an offensive mage, and how much fun would it be to travel with Vivi? He's powerful, adorable, and very sweet.

7. Varric, from Dragon Age 2. Because someone needs to write up the epic tale of our adventure when we get back, and who better? Also, I need a rogue type, and he's one of the best.

So, that's my list, as chosen today anyway. ;) Who would you all pick?

Good list! I approve.

Ah, but what if instead of a portal gun, Chell brings...Wheatley!

This list is awesome! The only person I didn't recognize was the DA2, since I have never played, but I can totally see why you picked the group you did.

Hm. If I had to pick seven, this would probably be my team:

Marth (Fire Emblem) - I feel that his tactical mindset and natural born charisma as a leader would pretty much head up the party, and I would look to him for advice while moving along.

Ezio (ACII) - I chose this particular time period because I really liked the spunky, nimble Ezio. He did make some more rash decisions then, but they weren't too detrimental to warrant going with an older, more experienced Ezio. Plus who doesn't want an assassin in their party?

Snake (MGS4) - CQC, Guns, Explosives, Espionage, Stealth. This man does it all. I'd probably use him for explosives and stealth, primarily though.

Terra (FFVI) - Her transformation into an Esper, the use of her own Espers, plus her natural strength make her an all around great party member to have along.

Soma Cruz (Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow) - His knowledge of all kinds of weapons and being able to absorb the souls of his foes are just a few things that make him incredibly useful... but hey, we just may run into a few vampires on this adventure and he would be the man to get the job done.

Jill Valentine (Resident Evil) - If for some crazy reason we run into some zombies, we'll have an expert with us. Plus, being the "Master of Unlocking" I will now have two folks that can pick locks. :)

Bayonetta (Bayonetta 2) - Okay so I know this is definitely kind of cheating because B2 isn't out yet, but I love her design much more in B2 than the first... so... Please? Anyway, I'd actually use her as my tank, believe it or not. She's one of those "I'm so good that I can never die" people with a lot of health (like they give you in most adventure games) so she could probably suffice as a tank. Plus dat ass. <3

I almost wanted to say Wrex as my tank, but I figured you picked a ME character, so I'd keep things diverse. :)

That's okay. Like I said, I wanted to bring some diversity to the table, and now, you've got at least a little bit of an inkling of them, so if any of them catches your eye (in my extremely vague description) you could take a peek at them. I'm not sure which ones you haven't played, but I highly recommend Assassin's Creed, Metal Gear Solid, and Bayonetta of the newer games on that list.

Ahh, Rydia. <3 She'd be super squish though. At least she wields a whip? :D

Lol. You list is awesome. Imagining the inter-party banter. ;)

Having a hard time imagining which 7 I would narrow down to *and* keep my options balanced between different classes/expertise. I might come back with a list. Or two.

I would kill for the dialogue fic of this adventure.
