Good news/bad news

Supergirl was renewed for season 2! Hooray! It will be airing on The CW, which seems like a better fit than CBS anyway.

Agent Carter has been cancelled! Boo! So much for my favorite show on television, by like a lot. Also reported today was news that the Bobbie Morse/Lance Hunter spin-off won't be moving forward, leaving Agents of SHIELD as the only Marvel show on ABC.

These two announcements came within hours of each other, so I experienced a bit of whiplash this afternoon. So disappointing. My dreams of a golden age for superhero ladies on television, shattered. Because of course we can't have more than one TV show about female superheroes of entirely different genres, tones, and target audiences. Meanwhile, we can have as many shows about white dudes who kill people but have lots of angsty manpain about it as we want. Goody.

I'm so sorry about Agent Carter. I love that show.

It just sucks that good television can't get renewed, even when a show has lots of critical praise and good DVR numbers. Its ratings weren't great, but network TV ratings are down across the board and have been for years.

Do you watch Quantico? Not specifically superheroes, but a diverse cast (that self-referentially nods to its own diversity) and absolutely amazing construction. I fucking love it.

So sorry about Agent Carter although I confess a small selfish part of me wants to start my #hayleyatwellthirteenthDoctor campaign IMMEDIATELY. (She said she wanted to be Doctor Who, and Capaldi is almost certainly going to step down next year.)

But I am sorry. I don't really watch TV (even new Who I'm somewhat ambivalent), but I caught a bit of Peggy Carter, and were I to watch more, I'd watch that. It was the kind of TV there should be more of. And I'm afraid it's people like me who are to blame for it not being renewed, except I don't watch any other TV either. :/
