September update; October goals

Wow, have I really not posted in over two weeks? Time flies when you're watching the world burn down to the ground.

Anyway, this is not a post about that; this is a post about writing goals. So, here goes.

Days written: 22/30
Days written, YTD: 203
Percentage of goal days written: 84%
Percentage of stretch goal days written: 70%
Words written: 9,641
Words written, YTD: 61,197
Percentages of words for the year so far written in a three-day stretch this month: 8%
Words of fic written: 8,260
Stories worked on: Three
Stories posted: Two (one not yet revealed)

Specific goals for September:

1. Write at least 5 days per week, with a stretch goal of 6. Got the hoped-for goal, didn't quite make it on the stretch.

2. Finish and post fics for Remix (due September 9th) and Black Emporium (due September 23rd). Done! But Black Emporium hasn't revealed yet. Once we have creator reveals for Black Emporium, I'll do a post linking to both of them. BTW, the Black Emporium story is the one that I wrote over half of in three days, and it wasn't particularly short (over 7k words). Remind me why I do this to myself again?

3. Plot out Ladies Bingo line and start at least one story. I'm in the early stages of such a story, hope to finish it soon.

4. Participate in Latinx Book Bingo and write as many reviews as I can. Read one book so far, about halfway through the second, so my odds of getting through all six that I selected by October 15th are pretty slim. But I still hope to write up more about the experience at the end.

Goals for 2018:

1. Complete the Journeyman Habit Pledge (240 writing days) for [community profile] getyourwordsout. Stretch goal: 288 writing days, which is about halfway between writing 5 days/week and 6 days/week. I'm well ahead of the pace for the official goal, and if I write every day in November, as I traditionally attempt, that's almost all the way there. But I'd still be 55 days short of the stretch goal, and though it's possible to write that many days in October and December, I'm not gonna call it likely. I'll still try to get as close as I can.

2. Complete and post Wardens of Ivalice, Part 3. Thanks to the exchanges I signed up for, I've made almost no progress on this since my last big goals check-in. On the upside, I have no large projects between now and the end of the year, just Ladies Bingo, so I'll see if I can refocus on it.

3. Participate in at least two fic exchanges and one Big Bang. This was clearly a year for fic exchanges, not so much for Big Bangs. I'll keep my eye out still, but I can't do a Big Bang between now and December AND finish Wardens of Ivalice. So unless I get super-inspired, I think WoI will have to be my priority.

4. Two media reviews or other substantial articles each month for Lady Business. (I'm probably going to tie this one to my reading goals.) Set a schedule for one political linkspam every two weeks, and stick to it. Still thinking about how to get better about this.

5. Finish every new story I start in 2018. So far so good! (I am very glad that, by the terms I set for this goal, WoI 3 doesn't count.)

Assuming I'm okay to practice what I preach about re-evaluating unrealistic goals, I feel pretty decent about the year to date so far. I am expecting work to remain busy through early December at least, which is good on many levels, but less so for writing projects. I'll continue to do what I can, especially considering that the US midterm election is just over a month away.

1. Write 6 days per week, including while traveling (I'm taking a long weekend to DC this month). That won't catch me up on the days written stretch goal, but at least it will keep me from falling further behind.

2. Finish first Ladies Bingo story and start at least one more.

3. Draft a subject-to-change outline and at least two more sections on Wardens of Ivalice.

4. Continue reading for Latinx Book Bingo and write at least two substantial reviews.
