Civ update
I have now played six full games of Civ 6 and collected four of the five victory types. My first game I really didn't know what I was doing and lost pretty badly on points. My second try was aiming for a Culture win; I made some early mistakes and never quite caught up, but I was on the verge of winning on points when Australia snatched away a Science victory. I then won four games in a row: Science (Australia), Culture (Greece, playing Gorgo), Domination (Scythia), and Religion (Arabia). The Culture victory was my favorite; the Religion victory felt very sudden and anti-climactic, since it happened in the middle of a religious battle, no indication that I was even close. With the other three victories, it was more of a slow march to inevitable victory.
Now I'm going for a victory on points, with Queen Victoria, and it's very different kind of goal: much vaguer, with many different routes toward it. Meanwhile, you have to survive the whole game without any of the other civilizations beating you to the punch with another victory type. I'm about halfway through the game, with my strategy so far being to build up a strong military and settle everywhere; I also want to start building up some culture because I'm at risk of losing to Greece (Pericles) if I don't step up my game there. I also need to start building a spy network to keep potential science victories at bay. It's a long game, but very interesting that way.
After that I'm not sure if I have any other specific goals for this game. It might be time to start turning up the difficulty level and picking random leaders; it might be time to get one of the many DLCs, or it might be time to break the Civ addiction and do something else with my life... naaaaaah. We all know THAT's not going to happen.
