September update; October goals

I think this may be a record for late posting of monthly goals.

Days written: 17/30
Year to date: 150/240
Words written: 3,221
Year to date: 37,027

Specific goals:
1. With 4 months to go in 2020, I would have to write 26.75 days every month to hit 240 total. I'll be honest with myself and say that's not going to happen. But I'll try for 25 days in September and see what happens. As you can see, this didn't happen, and in fact I fell even further behind. So I'm going to miss this mark, and it totally sucks.

2. Write and post story for [community profile] remixrevival. I have a story posted that I'm content with, although I may polish it a bit more before the reveal next week.

3. Finish in-progress LB post. Success, but I've learned my lesson about waiting too long to write a post that was timely when I started it. (It was also a victim of bad luck in timing -- I posted only a few hours before Ruth Bader Ginsberg's death, and people understandably had more pressing concerns that day, and on the days following when I was still actively promoting it.)

4. Post to my journal THREE days a week. Maybe ratcheting this goal down a step is what I need to make it work? We'll see. Alas, changing up this goal did not have the desired effect.

I admit, I'm not really sure where to go from here. I find I miss working on fiction. And despite my inability to sit down and make myself do it, I miss writing posts, too. I have a couple of ideas for things to write both here and for [community profile] ladybusiness, I'm probably going to sign up for [community profile] critmas_exchange, and I have an itch to go through some of my longer fics that have been languishing and start work on them again.

One thing that I've been considering is that I've been doing a fair amount of writing for dayjob work lately, and I'm hoping to do more of that rather than less. Which is great, but it does make it harder to motivate myself to come back to the same desk after my working hours are over and start writing again. Back when I worked at the library, I often counted longer form writing as a "writing day" and included those numbers in my wordcount; for various reasons, I stopped that practice, and although I'm not convinced I should start again, it does mean I need to recalibrate my expectations. I'm not going to change that mid-year, but before I set goals for 2021, I want to look at my annual numbers without the work writing and see how they compare.

Anyway, October, of which a week is already gone. Let's see.

1. Write at least 5 days a week for the rest of the month.

2. Polish [community profile] remixrevival story (deadline: 10/15).

3. Work on [community profile] ladybusiness idea, although it might not get posted this month.

4. Get my Goodreads up to date (I'm pretty sure some things are missing).

5. Post at least three days each week.

I feel like there may also be a bit of "it's 2020" in this. I'm seeing a lot of folks whose wordcount is down, including myself. (A trend that for many of us kicked off in 2016, hmmmmm.)

It's so hard trying to do your own stuff when dayjob gets busy! I feel for you there! But of course we need dayjob and want the work!
