The Adam Project: Time-travel movie made for Netflix starring Ryan Reynolds, a kid doing a brilliant Ryan Reynolds impersonation, and a bunch of other great actors who are varying levels of underused (Catherine Keener, Jennifer Garner, Zoe Saldana, and Mark Ruffalo). Reviews were mixed, and they were earned, but for the most part I enjoyed it. I suspect opinions depend a great deal on whether you find Reynolds charming or irritating; typically, I find myself more on the charmed side of the spectrum (see: my enthusiastic love of Free Guy), so naturally I enjoyed both the humor and the pathos he brought to the role.

Bridgerton, Season 2: I think I liked this better than the first season, for a few reasons: I found Kate a more appealing heroine than Daphne, all the sex was consensual, and the smoldering between Kate and Anthony was epic. fans self The actors had fantastic chemistry and could give a master class in longing looks. I still wouldn't call it "good", but it's fun to watch, especially with a group (I don't think I'd bother if I weren't watching it with friends).

Better Call Saul, Season 6, Eps 1-3: One of my most anticipated watches of 2022, and off to a fine start. However, I think I could have benefited from a 10 minute recap, because so much happened in Season 5 and it was awhile ago. T and I found this one, which was really helpful. I figured Nacho wasn't making it out of this season alive, but I am a little surprised his death was so early in the game. But damn Michael Mando played that perfectly. It seems like there's some friction between Mike and Gus about how willingly Gus is to sacrifice his people, and I wonder if the events of this episode are what brings Gus around to more of Mike's point of view.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart: I'm not very good at platform games, but they're fun to play, and Ratchet & Clank is my favorite ongoing series right now: enjoyable gameplay (when it's not over-relying on arena fighting), creative level design, and an adorable friendship between the two title characters. Rivet, a new character, is played by Jennifer Hale, which I would have never guessed in a million years, and of course she's excellent. Hard to say how far in we are, maybe a quarter to a third? So far so good.

I liked The Adam Project. It was poignant, but I didn't feel egregiously manipulated.

Yea, exactly. Especially the scene of RR & JG talking in the bar.

Anthony's actor is the VA for a fan-favorite-husband character in FFXIV, so this delights me.

I gave up on the Bridgerton books after the first one--they just weren't for me--but the bits and pieces I've seen of the show are very pretty.

His voice is delightful and in FFXIV he plays a nerdy catboy who has an adorable crush on the main character that you can read as hero-worship/"senpai notice me please"/"omg you are the coolest friend ever" if you wish, but "please pin me to a wall and bang me silly" is also a very viable interpretation, lol. He's fantastic.

Poor Nacho!!!! I saw one commentator point out that Mike's relationship with him prefigures how protective of Jesse he is in BB and that made sense to me.

Ryan Reynolds is personally responsible for the fact that my football team is getting relegated at the end of this season (not even kidding, lol) so I've moved firmly from 'charming' to 'irritating', if in an amused way.

(Haha oh ofc!)

Oh, he's doing great for his team, lol. I support a different one (AFC Wimbledon, in south-west London) and RR's team bought our best striker, Ollie Palmer. They paid a lot of money and we're always skint cos we're a fan-owned club, so we went for it - a mistake. We haven't been able to find someone as good as Ollie Palmer for the money, and have been doing teeeeeerribly ever since.

So like, I'm laughing as I say it cos it's so ridiculous, but also fuck Ryan Reynolds :p

Seeing the start of your post prompted me to finally watch The Adam Project, which I had been planning to do (but hadn’t gotten around to) mostly because I quite liked Free Guy. So, thanks!

I ended up enjoying Adam Project too, and I totally agree about the kid doing an impressive Ryan Reynolds impression—I said something similar to Kam partway through the movie. (I see that he’s Walker Scobell, age 13 or so, and this is his first movie.) I tend to roll my eyes a lot at this kind of movie, but RR and Scobell and the other actors (who I agree were underused) made it fun enough that I liked it despite the staleness of some of the tropes.

I also enjoyed Bridgerton s2 more than s1, and agree about the smoldering. Though now what I really want is Regé-Jean Page and Simone Ashley as the romantic leads of something.
