announcement

Today's lyrics game will be posted around 10am PST. Assuming I'm not drowned alive by the chest congestion that seems to be getting thicker every second. *cough* Argh -- this cold is lasting forever.

Also, gratuitous icon post.

Have you read The Doubtful Guest?

My family used to swear by a concoction handed down through the generations to rid us of lingering coughs. It was a combination of asafoetida, rock sugar and bootleg whiskey. If you took one dose, you would do anything on the sweet earth to not let any senior female in the family hear you cough again. It was the most efficacious cold remedy I have ever encountered.

Because it tastes so disgusting that you would go to any length not to be fed more? *shudder*

Have you read The Doubtful Guest?

I am not familiar, no.

Exactly. Morgan wrote a story about it (casting it in a fictional long ago) and posted it under Ikon's name.

The Doubtful Guest is one of Gorey's more enchanting little tales. We have a mad passion for Gorey which is almost equal to our mad passion for Sondheim. Your icon made me think of it.

Sorry, I must've posted at the same time you did. I agree with you regarding that Gorey tale. :)

It is always good to find another Doubtful Guest fan. LOL

Why does this not surprise me in the slightest? ;)

I got the icon from someone who made a complete set of the Gashleycrumb Tinies (scroll down a bit to see them). This one has always been my favorite, I'm not sure why.

Since I am able to focus on details this morning, I visited the site you mention. Lovely work. I took a couple which appealed to me. Thank you for the link.

Another horrid tasting but effective cough remedy is Buckleys syrup... only to be taken in case nothing else works :)!

I don't know that one either. I'm not quite to desperation yet; first I need to start with that delicious brew, Robitussin. ;)

The Doubtful Guest is a delightfully odd Edward Gorey story. I can loan it to you sometime.

Speaking of cough rememdies, there's this syrup I've gotten from Chinese herbal stores which contains loquat extract and honey. Quite tasty for something medicinal!

That would be great! Thanks.

Hm, I wonder if I would tolerate the taste of loquats.

I hope you feel better soon! Eternal colds suck.

There was a Harry Potter fanartist who started an HP version of the Gorey alphabet, but I'm not sure they got past J or so. But it was pretty awesome.

That sounds really awesome. You wouldn't happen to have a link?

As a matter of fact, I remembered the name of the artist! Here are the links:

Well, a girl's gotta have priorities.
