WIP meme

Ganked from [livejournal.com profile] bottle_of_shine and [livejournal.com profile] mneme_forgets.

If you happen to be working on some creative writing project, fanfiction or NaNoWriMo or what have you, post one sentence (or more) from each of your current work(s) in progress in your journal. It should probably be your favourite or most intriguing sentence so far, but what you choose is entirely your discretion.

All are FFX-2, except for one FFX and one X-2/KH crossover. Presented in no particular order with no identifing details. None of these have titles yet. I have never had so many WIP before. Sometime soon I'll need to sit myself down and have a finishing party.

"Don't try to deny it, I saw you looking at her, the one with the gray hair. Not bad, I suppose. But I prefer a girl with more meat on her bones."

"I have no idea what you're blathering about," Nooj retorted. "I was evaluating the new recruits for swordsmanship, that's all."

"Sure you were."
---

Almost as long as he had been with the Crusaders, he had wondered whether experimenting with machina might help in the fight against Sin. He had been one of the most vocal proponents of working with the Al Bhed in general and of Operation Mi'ihen in particular. And now, to learn that all his hopes were in vain, and that so much death had come instead... it was worse than a nightmare.
---

"Say Nooj."

There was an odd note in Gippal's voice, slightly strained, and it caught Nooj's attention. He stopped and turned to look. "Hmm?"

"Do you--" Gippal glanced down at his fingernails, just a little too casually. "Do you ever get this feeling that there's someone you should be looking for?"
---

"I still do love her," Wakka said. "But it's not the same, ya? I think..." He turned his eyes out to sea again, although he didn't pull away from Rikku's touch. "She's always been like a sister to me, and I see now that's all she really was. We both tried to make it more, for Vidina's sake. But, well, we couldn't do it anymore."
---

She was about to agree when her attention was seized by a distant sound.

Thump.

The muffled thunk of a metal cane heavily striking a wooden boat deck. A noise that Paine had once been intimately familiar with, a noise that haunted her dreams.
---

"She taught me a little of the language -- I called her Sudran, and I picked up a few other words here and there -- but I never touched machina, and we never visited Bikanel. And then she died, and not long after my father went on his pilgrimage and I moved to the temple. When I tried to speak Al Bhed there, the priests and nuns ignored me and the other kids made fun of me, so I stopped admitting my heritage. By the time Kimahri came and took me to Besaid, hiding had become a habit. Almost no one there even knew."
---

The stars look brighter and harder in the desert, glittering against the pure canopy of black night. Their cold brilliance provided the only light as Baralai stood atop the dune, arms akimbo, looking up and searching the sky for its secrets. All acolytes of Yevon learn the basics of celestial navigation, and Baralai was trying to prove his theory that the warrior monks who captained the Crimson Squad were leading them around in circles.
---

"Hey Mom. When the baby comes, will she be made of machina like Father?"

I want to read so many of these, but that last one slew me! :)

These fics come from a lot of different places, but that one was bunnied by that line alone. It popped into my head and I was utterly unable to resist it. I mean, how do you resist *that*?

Cool :) There's at least 2 of these I really want to read, and the others sound interesting too...

I bet I can guess which two...

All of them sound interesting. I am the most fascinated by the third from the last for some reason. The last one makes me laugh a great deal as well though. :)

It makes me laugh, too, which is why I just had to write it. ;) That story is actually almost finished! The third-from-last is from a fragment. I really want to expand it, but I'm not certain what it wants to be -- where it starts, how it ends. We'll see how it works out. :)

Unfair! Now my appetite is so whetted I won't be able to get a thing done until you post these. I am drowning in my mental saliva. ;)
