character meme

Well, if everyone else is going to do it....

Name a character and I'll tell you three (or more) facts about them from my own personal headcanon.

Fandoms: Final Fantasy X/X-2 of course, and let's add FFXII, Harry Potter, and Veronica Mars, just for the heck of it.

Fran. Or, if that doesn't work for you, Balthier.

[identity profile] owlmoose.livejournal.com 2007-05-18 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
Fran:

1. She misses the Wood more than she lets on, but she also means it when she says that she has no intention of ever going back.
2. Balthier is the first Hume she ever trusted or even particularly liked.
3. Before meeting Balthier, she was a solo bounty hunter. She's happy to stay in partnership with him for as long as he's willing and able, and she appreciated the companionship of the others when they traveled together, but she fully expects the partnership to dissolve at some point, and when that happens she'll be content to go solo again.

Balthier:

1. After his initial advances were rebuffed, he took Fran's lack of interest in stride, and he's now perfectly happy just to be partners. But that doesn't mean that he doesn't sneak an appreciative look from time to time.
2. He hated being a Judge, and being forced into that role by his father was a significant factor in his decision to leave Archades.
3. Every time he comes anywhere near Rabinastre, he has to fight the urge to drop in, scoop up Ashe, and fly off into the sunset. The main thing that stops him is the fear that her duty comes first, and that she would tell him no if he asked.

Ahhhhhh. *sniffles* Balthier#3 above is like, exactly what happens in my head. I. Oh. WHY CAN'T THEY BE TOGETHER. It makes me weep.

I so hear you. But we can always hold out hope for Revenant Wings....
iamleaper: (Gippal)

Gippal.

Because you knew I'd ask. ^^;

[identity profile] owlmoose.livejournal.com 2007-05-18 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
1. Gippal became cocky and confident after he lost the eye -- he figures that he's used up his share of bad luck, and nothing else that can happen to him will ever be worse.
2. He was among the first Al Bhed to meet with Crusaders who wanted to experiment with machina. Getting to know them was what gave him the idea to enlist.
3. He's not a slut, exactly, but he genuninely likes most people, and he's a physical guy, and sometimes that leads to bed. Because he's careful never to create false expectations, almost no one ever holds it against him, and his life is full of former lovers who are now friends.

I

OT but I just heard on the news that Veronica Mars has been cancelled. I know you will be sad. :(

Disappointed but not devestated. Given the rumors about how the show might be revamped, maybe it's better remembered as two seasons of excellence (and a third with its moments of brilliance).

Thanks for the update -- I hadn't heard this.

Auron.

What, do you even have to ask?

Re: Auron.

[identity profile] owlmoose.livejournal.com 2007-05-18 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
Figured. ;)

1. I may be the only person in fandom who doesn't make Auron a temple orphan. In my head, he grew up in a small town and went off to join the warrior monks, by choice, as soon as he was old enough.
2. He has no talent for magic of any kind and remains in awe of those who can cast spells with ease.
3. He's hated blitzball for as long as he can remember; he finds it a waste of time and doesn't understand why everyone around him loves it so much. But he always went to Tidus's games, until he turned pro and didn't need the old man as a fan anymore.

[identity profile] owlmoose.livejournal.com 2007-05-18 07:12 am (UTC)(link)
1. Loved his wife almost as much as she did him, even if he wasn't always good at showing it.
2. Never had any formal weapons training, but years of bar fights taught him enough that he picked up sword skills quite quickly.
3. Craved alcohol for the first few days after he gave it up, but soon realized that the clear head gave him an advantage against fiends. Then he stopped missing it -- until he became Sin.

Since nobody has taken it yet, Paine :) And I'd be interested in Hermione, too.

[identity profile] owlmoose.livejournal.com 2007-05-18 07:23 am (UTC)(link)
Paine:
1. Joined the Crusaders the minute she was old enough to do so.
2. After the Crimson Squad debacle, she went to Luca and spent the next two years doing odd jobs there, mostly traveling on the Highroad as a bodyguard and recording blitz games.
3. Spends so much effort purposefully not thinking about Nooj that, in a way, she ends up thinking about almost nothing else.

Hermione:
1. Mostly it's just that she's a perfectionist by nature, but there's a part of her that thinks she has to work harder than everyone else and be better than everyone else to prove that she belongs, despite being Muggle-born.
2. Never really realized that she had any feelings for Ron until the fight after the Yule Ball, then spent the next year and a half in denial.
3. Loves Harry like a brother; sometimes he's the strong older brother that she can lean on, sometimes he's more like the exasperating younger brother who needs some sense slapped into him.

Braska. :)

[identity profile] owlmoose.livejournal.com 2007-05-18 07:29 am (UTC)(link)
1. Met his wife when he traveled to Bikanel on a mission to promote greater understanding between Yevon and the Al Bhed. When they realized they were in love, he offered to leave Yevon for her, but she saw how unhappy that would make him and convinced him to take her back to Bevelle instead. She was right, but he always regretted taking her away without getting Cid's blessing, or at least without letting him know.
2. Brought Jecht on the pilgrimage because the fayth of Bahamut came to him in a vision and told him to do so.
3. Started his summoners training at an unusually old age; this was one of the reasons he was not generally expected to succeed.

...am I allowed to make this hard? Or ask for multiple characters? I am afraid. BUT TEMPTED!

So I guess I'll ask about Baralai, but you're not allowed to use the chef thing because I know that one already. ;)

[identity profile] owlmoose.livejournal.com 2007-05-23 06:33 am (UTC)(link)
1. His parents were killed by Sin when he was very young; he was raised in Bevelle temple, and that's the place he thinks of as his childhood home.
2. Although he was nudged into the priesthood from boyhood, part of him had always dreamed of being a warrior monk, and when he heard about the Crimson Squad, he jumped at the chance to try his hand at fighting.
3. His greatest fear is that he's no better than the schemers and liars who ran things for so long and that he'd be just like them given the chance.
Bonus item: He decided take up cooking after leaving New Yevon; he'd spent essentially his entire life living in St. Bevelle, which has a famously awful mess hall, and he thought the best way to avoid having to eat bad food again was to learn how to make his own.

If you want to ask about other characters, fire away!
