FanLib: the saga continues

CEO Chris Williams "answers" questions about FanLib. This is a follow-up to the Henry Jenkins article I posted the other day. The answers are full of non-apology apologies and canned marketing speak -- Williams seems, in large part, to be regurgitating his press kit. It can be summed up thusly: "We've changed the TOS and the FAQ, so go read them and quit complaining." Also, the last question is muffed by interviewee and interviewer both; Jenkins tried to ask why Williams is willing to engage him and not the fans, but he did so in such an apologetic manner that he gave Williams an out from having to provide a real answer, and so of course no real answer is forthcoming. Disappointing; I expect better from Jenkins.

On the lighter side: fanfic about the guys in the (weird, tacky, ill-advised) FanLib advertisements (slightly NSFW).

second try-my cat stepped on the laptop!

One thing is left totally unanswered in the interview--Williams said that there were *four* ads in circulation.

Where are the other two?

How can we make icons and banners and parodies and write slashy fic about them?

Inquiring minds want to know!

I also gathered from a link somewhere that some of the "interview" answers are being cut/pasted as "responses" to questions posted about legalities in the forum, so I think the marketing speak is right on.

And I completely 100% agree with you on the muffing (hahahahhaha) of the last question!

(goes to look at your other article)

Excellent question! ;)

You would think, after the uproar over the last Chris Williams comment that got cut-and-pasted all over LJ, that they would have learned not to do that again, but I guess not.

Yeah, I'm really disappointed in what happened with the last question. I understand why Jenkins might have felt awkward asking it, but the way he acknowledged the awkwardness really undercut the question's power. It's not something that Williams should have been able to weasel out of answering that easily. The gender dynamics of this whole situation have made me very uncomfortable, and this does nothing to help that.

Lastly, I like your icon. :)
