Year in Fic: 2008
This is not ganked from anyone in particular this year, but it seems like the kind of thing I ought to do, just to keep track of myself.
Master List
By canon used, then in order of publication. Excludes a few comment fics.
FFX
Lessons, Yuna/Shiva.
Wow, is that all? Interesting. Although I did write a lot of FFX for the 2008 Kissing Battle -- see below.
FFX-2
Between Storms, Gippal, Tidus. Tidus/Yuna.
In the Shadows, Paine/Nooj; "Damages of Loss" metafic.
Splitting Up, CS4.
Secret of the Flames, Paine.
Heritage, Paine, Yuna.
Sailing, Baralai/Gippal.
Icebreaker, CS4.
Aye, Captain, Paine/Nooj
Simple, Paine/Nooj.
A Good Team, Rikku, Nooj.
Growing Pains, Leblanc, Ormi, Logos.
Aftermath Chapter 3, Beclem, Nooj.
Home Movie, Gippal/Rikku.
The Reason, Beclem/Yuna.
Other
Sunshine: Watchman, Mel/Rae.
FFXII: Judgment, Dr. Cid, Ffamran, Venat.
Various
Kissing Battle '08, FFX, FFX-2, FFXII.
Trick or Treat '08, FFX, FFX-2.
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
Before I pulled the list together, I would have said "way, way less", but now that I look at it, it's longer than I expected it to be. Still, I feel like my output was way down.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January 2008?
Oh, definitely Sunshine. A huge departure for me, although I suppose the style of story itself isn't.
What's your favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest?
Probably "Home Movie", just because I had so much fun with it.
Did you take any writing risks this year? (See above for unexpected pairings, etc.) What did you learn from them?
Hmm. I think putting as much trust in a beta as I did for the rewrite of Aftermath was a stretch for me, but it turned out to be the write decision. The main lesson I learned? Don't rush things before they're ready.
Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year?
Finish. Aftermath. Or at the very least, don't let it languish the way I did last year. Also, kickstart myself back into the writing habit; hopefully JaNoWriMo will be a start.
From my past year of writing, what was...
My Favorite Story: "Aftermath", again. For a one-shot, "Secret of the Flames".
My Best Story: As always, I don't feel qualified to pick.
Story Most Underappreciated by the Universe: Before the other day, I would have said "Aftermath", especially after the all the sweat and tears I poured into the latest chapter. But it's gotten some gratifying attention recently, so yay for that.
Most Fun: "Home Movie"
Most Disappointing: I was pretty content with all of them.
Sexiest: "Aye Captain", if it counts for this year, given that it was actually first written in 2005.
Story with a Single Sexy Moment: "Simple", I suppose. There are a few nice ones in there. I also was pretty happy with some of my kisses, understated as they were. The Auron/Lulu one comes to mind.
Hardest to Write: Af.Ter.Math. Why was this so difficult? It was worth it, in the end, but still.
Most Unintentionally Telling: "In the Shadows" and my other "Damages of Loss" metafics. Hmm, can I find some way to make *every* story about Paine/Nooj? Let's find out.
