Gamer geek ahoy!
Earlier today, I was walking down the hallway of my building when I heard some extremely familiar music coming from one of the classrooms. I stuck my head inside -- it was the room where new students are checking into housing -- and looked around, but I didn't see anyone playing any games. So I had to ask. "Is that the Final Fantasy X soundtrack?"
The students seemed very impressed that I recognized it. Either that, or afraid of my utter geekdom. Maybe a little bit of both.
Also, I have a FFIV question! So I think I found the final battle -- I went back to the moon, and I went into the big cave, and I got to what I think is the bottom. Along the way, I got into all the rooms and passageways, and I battled all the dark aeons, and I made my way into the battle with Zeromus. And I died pretty horribly, but that's not the reason I got frustrated and set the game aside for months.
At some point, when I changed level in the underground moon caves (I've forgotten the name of the dungeon; that's how long it's been since I've played), the character thoughts on the menu screen changed, in ways that suggest that I missed some huge cutscene where the Cecil/Rosa/Kain triangle angst got all hashed out. I think it happened when I got to level 4. I don't think I saw a single cutscene from the time I entered the cave until I reached the final battle. There was dialogue before each dark aeon battle, but nothing super-deep in terms of plot. Did I miss something, or am I reading too much into what the characters say? And if I did miss it, can I go back and trigger it, or do I have to start the freaking dungeon all over again?
Also any advice on the final battle is welcome, although if the answer is "level your lazy ass up" I can accept that.
Also also, is there any significance to that face on the moon, or is it just a cool decoration? If there's some way to interact with it, I can't figure out what it is. Or maybe it's for later, but I get the feeling that there is no later. Zeromus really does look to be the final boss.

The character thoughts change, I think, on every single level on the Moon - but no, I don't think you missed any major cutscenes. A lot of the stuff in their thoughts is just progressively getting more and more effed up the deeper they go, because of Zeromus.
The best way to fight Zeromus is this:
1) Don't use the Crystal.
2) Have Rosa and Cecil cast Protect and Shell on everyone, and Haste on Edge. Nobody does anything offensive until step 3 is accomplished.
3) Have Edge Steal until he gets a Dark Matter. This can sometimes take up to 20 turns (augh) but it makes life EVER SO MUCH EASIER.
4) Use the Crystal.
5) Commence beatdown.
It's worth noting that Rydia's best use in this battle is spamming Meteor and Bahamut, while you want Rosa with Doublecast if at all possible spamming Curaja while Cecil stabs. Whoever has the Bless augment should use that early on. Equipping Phoenix is also helpful if you got that Augment. (I put Bless, Phoenix, and Darkness all on Kain and then had him jump repeatedly which was heinously effective.) Edge can throw stuff, hit things, use Items, whatever somebody more specialized is not doing.
Have you fought all the optional bosses to get all the sexy weapons?
ETA because I forgot part of my instructions. XD

Thanks for the tips! But what do you do with the Dark Matter once you get it?

Phoenix is one of...I think FuSoYa's augments? I don't have my guide here with me, but I am pretty sure it's one of the cool ones you get if you feed FuSoYa 3 Augments in total. I can check for further details when I return home.

I'll fire up the game later tonight and check on my status and stuff.

I have the Bless augment, but not Phoenix, unless you get it somewhere in the moon underground. Playing some today reminded me of the other reason I got frustrated and gave up -- not enough save points in the moon underground. Nothing like beating Leviathan to get the cool weapon and then being eaten by a Behemoth on the next level with no place to save in between. :P

The key with the save points is knowing how to backtrack to the two that are available. Also, the best advice I can give for Behemoths is to cast Blink and Protect on the boys and have them lay smackdown physically, and don't bother with spells because Behemoths have a wretched spell counter.

Speaking of bunnies, at first I thought that was Edge/Fran in your icon rather than Edge/Kain.
