1. The first character I fell in love with: Rydia
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Edge. His attitude problem really grated on me at first, but I learned to appreciate him.
3. The character everyone else loves that I don’t: Kain. This may come from having not seen the ending yet, but as far as I can tell, he has yet to actually learn anything from his misadventures.
4. The character I love that everyone else hates: Maybe Edward? I suspect he's far less useless as a player character in the DS version than he may have been in earlier versions.
5. The character I would shag anytime: Probably Edge.
6. The character I'd want to be like: Rydia, definitely
7. The character I'd slap: Tellah. I know he learns his lesson about single-minded revenge, but still.
8. A pairing that I love: Rydia/Edge
9. A pairing that I despise: Despise is a little strong, but Palom/Porom definitely hits my squick buttons.
10. Favorite character: Probably Rydia, although I do like Edge and Cecil a lot.
11. What are my five favorite things about the fandom. I've only been observing it from the outskirts, but you seem like a thoughtful and friendly bunch. And very active, especially for the small size.
12. What are my five least favorite things about the fandom. Not enough a part of it to really say.
13. Who are my five favorite characters. Rydia, Edge, Cecil, Yang, Yang's wife.
14. Who are my five least favorite characters. None, really, although I could do without Anna as woman in refrigerator. But that's the game's fault, not hers.
15. What are my five favorite pairings. Edge/Rydia, Cecil/Rosa, Cecil/Rydia, Cecil/Kain (I sense a theme)
16. What are my five least favorite pairings. None, really, except twincest as above.
17. Which character are you most like. Rosa, I think. In both the good ways and the bad ways.
18. What is my deep, dark fandom secret. I haven't finished the game -- I'm stuck on the final battle. And as of now, I'm not motivated enough to get butch enough to win, even though I do really want to see the ending.

I did all of Mugs's requests, so why not.

1. The first character I fell in love with: Balthier. (Me and everyone else, I know.)
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Ashe -- she took awhile to grow on me.
3. The character everyone else loves that I don’t: Not sure... I like pretty much all the main cast.
4. The character I love that everyone else hates: Vaan! What can I say, I genuinely like the kid. He seems very real to me.
5. The character I would shag anytime: Balthier (continues to be predictable)
6. The character I'd want to be like: Basch
7. The character I'd slap: Dr. Cid
8. A pairing that I love: Balthier/Ashe
9. A pairing that I despise: Larsa/Vayne. I've probably mentioned before that this pairing hits pretty much every squick I have. Stay far, far away.

11. What are my five favorite things about the fandom. Good variety of fanworks -- it doesn't feel like it's settled down to a handful of cliches.
12. What are my five least favorite things about the fandom. It hasn't felt very welcoming to me, but that's probably as much my fault for not jumping in feet-first at the beginning as anything.

I know the feeling, and I haven't even beaten it the first time yet. >.> There's a lot of very complex fic in this fandom, and you're right, it can be a little hard to feel comfortable.
