Go Iowa!!

If you'd told me that my childhood home state would get same-sex right mere months after my wacko progressive adopted home state got it so very wrong, I would never, ever, have believed you. Of course, Iowa has much tougher rules for amending the state constitution than California. Sigh.

Anyway, enough sadness. This is a happy thing. Hooray!

Hooray, indeed. I was flabbergasted when I heard. Iowa! Of all the states I could imagine, that is far down the list. Maybe Kansas and Oklahoma will follow? LOL

I am less surprised than I would have been by a lot of states. Midwesterners, including Iowans, have a "live and let live" streak when it comes to their friends and neighbors. They may not like the way you live your life, but they aren't going to tell you not to do it, and they'll still help you bring the crops in if there's a storm. Kansas and Oklahoma are much more conservative than Iowa.

But although now that it's happpened, I'm not *too* surprised, I would never have guessed that Iowa would be next. And it's beyond thrilling to see it a) happening in the heartland and b) a unanimous ruling.
