I don't know who she is but I'm going to immediately buy something she wrote! :)

Oh, do. "The Orphans Tales" duology are some of my favorite books ever ever ever. "Palimpsest" is also really good, and somehow I think you would particularly like it.

I actually read a review for Palimpsest a while back and remembered I thought it was interesting, so it was what I ordered. I'm doubly excited since you suggested it, too! :)

Seconding the above comment -- that is one author now on my to-buy list.

Wow, the Jasper Fforde comment is mind-boggling.

I liked GRRM's later post where he just said, Look I love my characters and I want them to stay under my control. I thought it was unrealistic but much more humanly understandable than some of the other rationales he had floated.

Valente's comment about the generational divide is pretty much the last word, IMO.

I know, right? I don't think I've ever seen a comment on fanfiction from a published author that was more hypocritical (or, to be generous about it, "showing a total lack of self-awareness").

I agree about GRRM's last post beinartar more sympathetic, although I still don't fully agree with it.

This completely made my day. \o/

I agree with her last statement: this is a generational issue. Anyone who has grown up as part of the remix culture knows that extreme fights over ownership of ideas in popular media are, in the end, rather absurd.

The comments beneath are also very interesting.
