I would understand if they had been making pitiful noises. That has, in fact, often been known to work. ;) But there were no sad kitty faces in evidence.
AHAHAHAHAHAHA yes. We have often said that if (some of) our students drove the way they approach the class, when they hit a roadblock, they would just stop and sit there.
I see that effect in action all the time. Like when they type a phrase into the library catalog search box and get no results. "Oh, you must not have anything, then." Which leads, of course, to rampant Wikipedia abuse.
I'm starting to think that the desire to ignore a chore and thereby let it become someone else's problem is one of the strongest forces in the universe.
