Mini update

I had a fun weekend but it involved a lot of running around, and now I am sick. Not super-sick, but low energy, achy throat, and I totally thrashed my voice. Now I have to decide whether to keep a lunch engagement on Wednesday. It involves a friend I haven't seen in ages, so I hate to cancel, but I might not have much choice. Guess I'll sit on it for a day.

What else... I finished my DABB draft, for certain values of "finished", with a day to spare. There's a lot of work left to do, but it's in pretty good shape, and I have at least a month to work on it, so I'm not too worried. In the meantime, I started something for the Chocobo Races (yes, really), and I have ideas for my [tumblr.com profile] dragonageholidaycheer gift. Given the due dates, I should probably work on the latter first, but it's the former that's claiming my attention at the moment.

In the rest of life, still no job leads yet, but that's okay with the holidays coming up. We leave for T's mom's place a week from today, and we'll be there most of the following week.

And that's it for me right now. How are you?

I hope you get over that cold really fast so you can enjoy going out on Wednesday.

Congrats on getting that DABB draft done (for some arbitrary value of finished). Looking forward to it when it is officially done.

I'm slogging through the last of my grading and end-of-quarter paperwork/redtape. My goal is to be finished by 3pm tomorrow, if not earlier, so I can get to work on dragon age holiday cheer and finish up a few old kinkmeme prompts (one isn't even "kinky" per se. R-rated at most.)

For my daholidaycheer gift, I'm actually thinking of making one detailed illustration (***NERVOUSLY BITES NAILS***) plus a set of DA themed desktop wallpapers (digital collage w/photoshop filter fun is much easier for me). Given how little time I have to complete the illustration, I might need to keep it in the style of a very clean, detailed digital pencil drawing because my digital inking technique is still far too slow and my "analog" art supplies are packed away in storage (I really only know how to paint using real paint, real brushes, etc). But, we shall see. (***BITES NAILS MORE***). Maybe I'll run out to the store and get some good ink pens and nice paper and just do things the old fashion way. Meanwhile, I cannot believe that over 10 years have passed since I've last done anything resembling semi-professional illustration work. The sketches I did this past summer were the first bits of illustration I've done for fun since I cannot even remember when, and the first time I ever tried using a tablet (ludite artist!). At least I'm good with photoshop, so if my digital illustration work ends up being a bomb, I can at least fall back on producing a few of DA themed collages as big, digital wallpapers. I really need to find more deadline-driven excuses to do art for fandom.

Drink tea! And soup! And just stay home, stay warm, and do absolutely nothing important. :)

Most of my paperwork done. Just one more annoying item left on my plate for once my coffee break is over.

Your BB story: Wow. 50k? That's a lot to whip into shape very quickly. I feared the same problem in the middle of november, pulled out as a writer, and then, at the very last minute, I switch over to contribute as an artist. I think it is sort of amusing that I'm known in fandom exclusively as a writer (fic+meta) because I used to be one of those paint splattered art school kids (until art became a minor and my uni degree went all mathematical) and I work as a designer, yet I backed into writing fiction rather randomly after writing a few scripts. Go figure?!

The bad thing about having both a writerly focus and the desire to do visual art is that each activity takes time to do well and I often barely have the time to do one, much less both.

Oh no! I hope you are feeling better today. (I don't understand how it took me this long to catch up on two days of Dreamwidth. Though that's pretty cool, actually, as it implies more activity and I am 100% in favour of that!)

Congratulations on the big bang draft! Those are always sort of terrifying for me.

Today I am home with a horrifying air-pressure migraine (sob winter weather what are you) and watching a ton of NCIS because that is about my brain speed.

It is at least controllable with ibuprofen. Which is good enough for now.

I'm glad you were able to keep your lunch plans!
