guster, lennon, me

Paging all Guster fans (I know you're out there). As some of you know (because you were there) and others may have seen (in my huge LJ post regarding my trip), the opening band on this BNL trip features Adam from Guster. I enjoyed their act a lot, even after seeing the exact same set three times in three nights, and I've listened to the album a few times now and really like that, too. So now I'm thinking I ought to pick up some Guster. But they have rather a lot of albums, and I'm wondering where I should start. Any suggestions?

On a more serious note, today is the 25 anniversary of John Lennon's death. The radio station I listen to while driving to work was doing an all-Lennon show in tribute (they played a lovely cover he did of "Stand By Me", which I may have to track down); otherwise I probably would have missed the date. Lennon's death may be the earliest historical event that I'm certain I actually remember myself, not just remember other people talking about. I clearly recall that my mom was watching the Today show, as she did every morning, and they kept showing the outside of the apartment building where he was killed. It's odd that this image should be burned so strongly into my mind, because while Lennon was significant on a world scale, he wasn't particularly meaningful in my life at the time -- I was only seven, and neither of my parents were Beatles fans. Yet somehow my young brain seized on the moment, marked it as something worth remembering. Odd.

I am so brain dead this morning. I think I stayed up too late last night, mostly writing (AGL 42, which may be completely drafted, and the first bit of a story for a fanfic exchange) and playing with kittens. But I've got to perk up -- I have a student coming in, he asked for a lesson in using Windows, and I need to be awake for that. The tea isn't helping; I may have to break out the big guns and visit ye olde coffee Goliath down the street. Mmm, latte.

I'm partial to "Lost and Gone Forever" :)

That's also the one most highly rated on Amazon. So unless there are strong dissents, I expect I'll pick it up soon. :) Thanks for the rec!

I was listening to the BBC News this morning and they were playing portions of one of the last interviews with John Lennon, one that was never aired. It was odd, he sounded like a real jerk, I can see why they never aired it...

he sounded like a real jerk

I could see that, actually. I often got the impression that he was rather high on himself. Or was the jerkiness of a different sort?

A lot of it was just being high on himself, and down on everyone els in the band... he even talked about how he was a genius.

I was only aware that Guster had only three or four albums. Well, according to their webpage I guess. Sheesh! If that's true then I've got some shopping to do myself, LOL!

The two I have by them are 'Keep it Together' and 'Lost and Gone Forever'. They are staples in my music set every day. I swear I can listen to both these albums repeatedly and never get tired of them. Both are Highly recommended.

Well, see, I look at four albums and think "eek so many how do I choose?" :) So maybe you don't need to shop after all.

Thanks for the recommendations! Adam is indeed a cutie. Fun to watch, too -- very bouncy and smiley. I've never seen Guster (I don't think; it's possible that I saw them open for BNL and have forgotten, I know they've toured together) but I hear they put on a really enjoyable show.

I would love to see them live. I bet they'd be great! I'd only discovered them last year myself and everything I've heard from them has been a hit with me. I'm really picky about my music also so that says a lot, lol!
