Questions and Answers
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January? Of the things I knew exited? Possibly Person of Interest -- it had been on my to-watch list, but I never would have expected to get fannish about it. And, okay, one story is not exactly "getting fannish", but it's one that I'm definitely thinking about going back to.
What's your own favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest? "Inappropriate" -- I wasn't sure I had a new take on the Ashe/Balthier situation in me, but then
renay gave me that fake dating prompt, and it was off to the races.
Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them? Not that I can think of. Given how little I've been writing, it doesn't feel like the time to be going out on a limb; I wonder if it's time to retrench and go back to what I've always been good at, rebuild myself some confidence.
Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year? Watch this space...
From my past year of writing, what was...
My best story of this year: Probably "Inappropriate".
My most popular story of this year: "Rule 34", with the most hits and kudos by a lot. "A Home by the Woods" is a strong second in both categories. Honorable mention to "The Best Toys", which in less than a week gathered the 6th most hits and kudos for the year. My Yuletide fic did similarly well, although I'm sure that's helped by the visibility of being in the Yuletide collection.
Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: Probably "A Guardian's Legacy"; although it's not really representative of my current work, it was a monumental achievement for me back in its day, and I've always wished it might get a little more love.
Most fun story to write: "Public Service Announcement", followed by "No Case Too Small".
Story with the single sexiest moment: Like last year, this was not a very sex-scene heavy year for me. Maybe that's what's been missing from my writing. :)
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: I don't feel like I did much along these lines this year, either.
Hardest story to write: Besides everything? I had a few false starts on the Yuletide story. Also the sequel to Face the Music, which I worked on quite a bit this year but didn't make nearly as much progress on as I would have liked. Part of me wants to shelve this until I get in position to replay DA:I again, and part of me thinks that's a terrible excuse.
Biggest Disappointment: Writing and posting so little at all. I'll have more to say about this when I do my annual goals post, which might be tonight or tomorrow.
Biggest Surprise: See above re. what I would never have predicted.
Most Unintentionally Telling Story: An Ashe/Balthier fake dating story turns into another take on the Al-Cid/Ashe/Balthier triad. Surprise! Not really.
In Conclusion
I don't have anything grand or thoughtful to say here that wouldn't make more sense in my annual goals post, so I'll hold all my thoughts for now. Just to say that I keep slipping, and I'm not sure what will help me come back. But maybe I'll figure it all out.
