Guessing Game

Post a list of up to 20 books/movies/anime/TV shows/video games/etc. that you've had an obsessive fannish love of at some time in your life. Have your friends list guess your favourite character from each item.

I wouldn't say I have an obsessive love of most of these, but they are all things I like or have liked an awful lot. Coming up with the list was actually a fairly interesting exercise. I can't believe I actually got 20. Some of these are pretty obvious; in others, my choice may seem more obscure.

In alphabetical order:

  1. 24 -- Michelle Dessler

  2. Amber series -- Prince Corwin

  3. Babylon 5 -- Susan Ivanova (guessed by [livejournal.com profile] waterowl)

  4. Buffy the Vampire Slayer -- Rupert Giles

  5. Firefly -- Zoe (guessed by [livejournal.com profile] iamleaper)

  6. Final Fantasy X -- Auron (guessed by [livejournal.com profile] peachespig)

  7. Final Fantasy X-2 -- Paine (guessed by [livejournal.com profile] peachespig)

  8. Harry Potter -- Hermione Granger (guessed by [livejournal.com profile] anzubird)

  9. Lost -- Hugo "Hurley" Reyes

  10. Chronicles of Narnia -- Edmund Pevensie (guessed by [livejournal.com profile] peachespig)

  11. Outlander -- Lord John Grey (guessed by [livejournal.com profile] yuna_flowering)

  12. San Francisco Giants -- Matt Williams (guessed by [livejournal.com profile] peachespig)

  13. Sandman -- Rose Walker

  14. A Song of Ice and Fire --Jon Snow

  15. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine -- Elim Garak

  16. Star Trek: TNG -- Jean-Luc Picard (guessed by [livejournal.com profile] peachespig)

  17. Star Wars (original trilogy) -- Princess Leia (guessed by [livejournal.com profile] yuna_flowering)

  18. Strangers in Paradise (comic) -- David Qin

  19. Sweet Valley High (yes, really) --Nicholas Morrow (Nicholas/Elizabeth was probably my first non-canon 'ship ever)

  20. The West Wing -- C.J. Cregg (guessed by [livejournal.com profile] peachespig)

For most of these I have absolutely no idea, but I'll take some shots in the dark: :D

4. Angel
5. Wash
6. Auron
7. Nooj
8. Lupin
10. Edmund
12. Will Clark
15. Dax
16. Picard
17. Han Solo

Right on 6, 10, and 16. Close second on 15 and 17.

12: wrong player, right era.

Think a little harder about 4. ;)

[identity profile] peachespig.livejournal.com 2005-12-18 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
I can make a million more guesses, but maybe I should let other people try before I make random ones.

But an unrandom guess, I could like to guess 7. Paine.

[identity profile] owlmoose.livejournal.com 2005-12-18 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
Yup.

I doubt anyone else on my flist will get the baseball one, so let me give you a hint to make it less random: I had a very specific reason to be extremely bitter about the 1994 strike.

[identity profile] peachespig.livejournal.com 2005-12-18 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
and for 12, how about Matt Williams.

[identity profile] owlmoose.livejournal.com 2005-12-18 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, you didn't even need the hint! :)

Matt Williams, no kidding! I adored him in the brief stint he had in Cleveland. =)

[identity profile] owlmoose.livejournal.com 2005-12-18 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
That's right, I had forgotten that Matty was an Indian briefly. :) He was the Giants thirdbaseman for a long time. I adored him, and was extremely pissed when the 1994 strike wiped out his run at the single-season home-run record, which he had been on pace to break.

[personal profile] iamleaper 2005-12-18 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
I know. Poor guy... I was pissed about the 1994 season, too, because... man, the Indians were doing well for the first time EVER. >.> But I got repaid in the years after that.

Matty's a great guy. People in Cleveland loved him when he was here... maybe mostly because we finally got a 3B that could play and moved Thome the hell to first base where he belonged.

[identity profile] peachespig.livejournal.com 2005-12-18 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
The 1994 season was a great loss for so many reasons. It cost the Expos their big chance to be the best team in baseball for once, too. Man, that was a team.

Williams was still good when he was an Indian, right? It wasn't until he went to Arizona that he stared to show his age.

[personal profile] iamleaper 2005-12-18 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
He was still good, though he didn't have an amazing stint in Cleveland. Hell, we just appreciated someone who could freaking stop the ball. Ugh. >.<;

[identity profile] owlmoose.livejournal.com 2005-12-18 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
I was so pissed about the strike that I gave up on the game for several years, so I don't know much about Williams' fortunes with the Indians. He did indeed show his age with the D'Backs, though, mostly by getting injuried a lot. In my fantasy world, he comes back to the Giants to coach or commentate, although I think that's highly unlikely since he has kids who are happily settled in AZ.

[identity profile] peachespig.livejournal.com 2005-12-18 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
I was just looking at his statistics (http://www.baseball-reference.com/w/willima04.shtml) - the Giants definitely let him go at the right time. He only played one year in Cleveland, and then many in Arizona, and he was never as good again, though 1999 was nice.

BTW, did you know that in the 162 games starting from the beginning of the 1994 season and then including however many games of 1995 it takes to make up for the ones missing from 1994, Williams hit 62 home runs?

[identity profile] owlmoose.livejournal.com 2005-12-18 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't know that. Sigh. He never had a season like that before or since.

Everyone agrees that the Williams was the right move with hindsight, but fans were pissed at the time, because he was absolutely beloved. (And he still is, got a big cheer every time he came back as a Diamondback.) It was one of Brian Sabean's first big moves, and everyone thought he was on crack.

Williams was traded for Jeff Kent.

People got a lot more tolerant of Sabean after that.

[identity profile] owlmoose.livejournal.com 2005-12-18 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
Thome used to play *3rd base*?! I cannot picture that. Not even a little bit.
iamleaper: (Default)

[personal profile] iamleaper 2005-12-18 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
Well, if you call it "playing" 3rd base... >.>;;;;

[identity profile] owlmoose.livejournal.com 2005-12-18 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, so more like "standing in the general vicinity of third base, and maybe picking up a ball every once in awhile."
iamleaper: (Default)

[personal profile] iamleaper 2005-12-18 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
That about covers it. How do you think Omar Vizquel got to be so amazing? It wasn't because it was natural talent -- more like necessity.
iamleaper: (sudden but inevitable!)

[personal profile] iamleaper 2005-12-18 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
You seem like a Zoë or Mal girl, for Firefly. ;)

[identity profile] owlmoose.livejournal.com 2005-12-18 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
Zoe is correct! I like Mal (and Wash, and Kaylee and Simon) a lot, but something about the cool-headed ass-kicking chick really appeals. :)
iamleaper: (Default)

[personal profile] iamleaper 2005-12-18 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'm definitely a Wash girl... although I do have a thing for Simon... I do, apparently, <3333 the doctor-types.

[identity profile] peachespig.livejournal.com 2005-12-18 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
D'oh! You'd think I would have remembered Zoë, since I made you that icon! :D

Can I make another guess? 20. C.J.

[identity profile] owlmoose.livejournal.com 2005-12-18 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
D'oh! You'd think I would have remembered Zoë, since I made you that icon! :D

I would have thought that, too. ;)

And yes.

[identity profile] anzubird.livejournal.com 2005-12-18 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
1. Chloe
8. Hermoine

[identity profile] owlmoose.livejournal.com 2005-12-18 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes on #8. As for 24, Chloe is amusing, but I like my women more kick-ass and less weird. ;) Also, I never saw the fourth season.

[identity profile] anzubird.livejournal.com 2005-12-19 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Chloe has a way of growing on you (or on me), but yes, season 4 was definitely her flowering :)

[identity profile] waterowl.livejournal.com 2005-12-18 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
2. Deirdre
3. Susan Ivanova
9. Kate
15. Dax

See if you can guess mine.

[identity profile] owlmoose.livejournal.com 2005-12-18 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Correct on B5!

Dax is my favorite regular character on DS9, but for very favorite I had to go with someone else.

[identity profile] luvmoose.livejournal.com 2005-12-19 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm, the answer to DS9 depends on your definition of "regular" character.

After Dax, I might put Weyoon or Damar, but you might consider those regular as well. Or perhaps Ziyal?

So, is it more obscure than that, or am I thinking too hard?

[identity profile] owlmoose.livejournal.com 2005-12-19 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
By "regular" I mean "opening credits". This character is what you might call a regular guest star. Not Weyoon or Damar, but at that sort of level of importance.

[identity profile] yuna-flowering.livejournal.com 2005-12-18 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Outlander- Jamie
Star Wars OT- Leia

[identity profile] owlmoose.livejournal.com 2005-12-18 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Correct on Star Wars! :)

[identity profile] yuna-flowering.livejournal.com 2005-12-18 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
How about Claire, for Outlander?

[identity profile] owlmoose.livejournal.com 2005-12-18 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope.

I like Jaime and Claire an awful lot, but when it comes down to it my greatest love is for a more minor character.

[identity profile] yuna-flowering.livejournal.com 2005-12-19 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
Jenny or Ian? There's others I could think of, but it doesn't seem fair to guess a whole bunch at once.

[identity profile] owlmoose.livejournal.com 2005-12-19 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
Nope, not them either.

How far have you gotten in the series? Still enjoying it?

[identity profile] yuna-flowering.livejournal.com 2005-12-19 03:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm about to start in on Fiery Cross :) Brianna or Lord John?

[identity profile] owlmoose.livejournal.com 2005-12-19 03:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Got it in six! ;) I don't know why I adore Lord John so, but I really do.

Glad you are still liking the books. Before long you will get to the end of "Snow and Ashes" and be just as bereft as the rest of us addicts...

(Anonymous) 2005-12-21 02:34 pm (UTC)(link)
D'oh! Garak was what I was going to guess next!

[identity profile] luvmoose.livejournal.com 2005-12-21 02:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, that was me.
