Guessing Game

Post a list of up to 20 books/movies/anime/TV shows/video games/etc. that you've had an obsessive fannish love of at some time in your life. Have your friends list guess your favourite character from each item.

I wouldn't say I have an obsessive love of most of these, but they are all things I like or have liked an awful lot. Coming up with the list was actually a fairly interesting exercise. I can't believe I actually got 20. Some of these are pretty obvious; in others, my choice may seem more obscure.

In alphabetical order:

  1. 24 -- Michelle Dessler

  2. Amber series -- Prince Corwin

  3. Babylon 5 -- Susan Ivanova (guessed by [livejournal.com profile] waterowl)

  4. Buffy the Vampire Slayer -- Rupert Giles

  5. Firefly -- Zoe (guessed by [livejournal.com profile] iamleaper)

  6. Final Fantasy X -- Auron (guessed by [livejournal.com profile] peachespig)

  7. Final Fantasy X-2 -- Paine (guessed by [livejournal.com profile] peachespig)

  8. Harry Potter -- Hermione Granger (guessed by [livejournal.com profile] anzubird)

  9. Lost -- Hugo "Hurley" Reyes

  10. Chronicles of Narnia -- Edmund Pevensie (guessed by [livejournal.com profile] peachespig)

  11. Outlander -- Lord John Grey (guessed by [livejournal.com profile] yuna_flowering)

  12. San Francisco Giants -- Matt Williams (guessed by [livejournal.com profile] peachespig)

  13. Sandman -- Rose Walker

  14. A Song of Ice and Fire --Jon Snow

  15. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine -- Elim Garak

  16. Star Trek: TNG -- Jean-Luc Picard (guessed by [livejournal.com profile] peachespig)

  17. Star Wars (original trilogy) -- Princess Leia (guessed by [livejournal.com profile] yuna_flowering)

  18. Strangers in Paradise (comic) -- David Qin

  19. Sweet Valley High (yes, really) --Nicholas Morrow (Nicholas/Elizabeth was probably my first non-canon 'ship ever)

I was so pissed about the strike that I gave up on the game for several years, so I don't know much about Williams' fortunes with the Indians. He did indeed show his age with the D'Backs, though, mostly by getting injuried a lot. In my fantasy world, he comes back to the Giants to coach or commentate, although I think that's highly unlikely since he has kids who are happily settled in AZ.

I was just looking at his statistics (http://www.baseball-reference.com/w/willima04.shtml) - the Giants definitely let him go at the right time. He only played one year in Cleveland, and then many in Arizona, and he was never as good again, though 1999 was nice.

BTW, did you know that in the 162 games starting from the beginning of the 1994 season and then including however many games of 1995 it takes to make up for the ones missing from 1994, Williams hit 62 home runs?

I didn't know that. Sigh. He never had a season like that before or since.

Everyone agrees that the Williams was the right move with hindsight, but fans were pissed at the time, because he was absolutely beloved. (And he still is, got a big cheer every time he came back as a Diamondback.) It was one of Brian Sabean's first big moves, and everyone thought he was on crack.

Williams was traded for Jeff Kent.

People got a lot more tolerant of Sabean after that.
