Another day spent catching up on my librarian reading.

• Time posts its picks for 100 best novels since 1923 (the year the magazine started publishing). Some interesting and unexpected choices (Are You There, God? It's Me, Margaret, Snow Crash, Possession, Watchmen -- which I still haven't read, hm).



• Wired article on Wikipedia and free speech.



• Speaking of Wikipedia: how trustworthy is it? The Answers to Common Objections page has a lot to say about this. I like the section that points out errors in more traditional sources. This is fun: news outlets and others taking articles from The Onion too seriously.



• And a quote from Russell Baker (from review of a book by Nicholson Baker, author and frequent librarian critic, a man about whom I could construct an entire rant if I were so inclined, but not today):

I think I do- I'm in the jewelry industry. It's very frustrating when they want quality work but their pay isn't quality.

I hear you there. Boy, do I ever. I think there are actually a number of professions like that; librarianship isn't the only one. :) I just noticed the quote because it's mine.
