want some cat pictures?

Cats on the bed. They are definitely getting more comfortable up there. Lexi actually settled down on my chest and purred for a little while this morning. That's a big step for him. I would rather it hadn't been at 6 AM, but oh well.

The rest are in the gallery.

Tomorrow is the three-month anniversary of Kitten Day. I can't quite believe what a short time it's been.

They are growing up and becoming elegant instead of cuddly. They are so beautiful and so serene. You and T are obviously doing all the right things. ;)

They are getting big, aren't they? Looking less like kittens and more like small cats (although I think Lexi may already be bigger than our previous cat was in adulthood!). Of course, all of these photos were taken in calm mode -- they still have many moments of kitten energy where they race around the house and pounce on everything in sight. :)

Good heavens, my two very mature moggies still have moments of being kittens. Particularly Charity. I don't think she will ever really grow up. Cats are delightful at every stage, unlike children. LOL

The third picture with Alexei: he has the total come-hither look. "Hey. Bebeh. Do you wanna...pet me?" <chortle />

Perhaps he is hooked on a feeling.

Well, at least he's better equipped to catch a fish in his teeth. ;)

They are looking more and more svelte and graceful as time goes by, especially Lexi, he very much reminds me of Smut, are all black cats gifted with silken coats?.

It looks that way. Both Mac, our beautiful black gentleman, and The Prince, the one who drops by for breakfast every morning, are as sleek and as glossy as obsidian. And The Prince is an entirely outdoor cat; they usually are less satiny. BTW: he belongs to a family a couple of doors up and has a regular route of other houses he visits for extra meals and such. In spite of which, he remains as lean and lovely as a panther.

Heh, so you feed those two as well as Charity and Prudence.

I forgot to mention a while ago- i had noticed that you named them after two of the great virtues. How many are there? Was it five or seven? I can never remember.

How many are there?

I have no idea, being bigger on the Mortal Sins than the Tedious Virtues. ;)

There are Seven, like the deadlies, but I can never remember what they are. They're boring, anyway. ;)

I'm pretty sure one is Chastity. That leaves only four more.

Research lady to the rescue!

Sources differ, but the most common list for the Seven Heavenly Virtues is:

faith, hope, charity, fortitude, justice, temperance, prudence

Chastity isn't called out specifically, although I suppose you could consider it a subset of temperance. Maybe you could name your next cat that. ;)

Nah! I like Justice. So what's wrong with Chastity? Do you think the OTP know about this?

Re: x

I think Temperence probably covers it. "Temperance is moderation of needed things and abstinence from things which are not needed." Since these folks would likely say that sex is not needed... ;)

There's also the Seven Contrary Virutes, which does include Chastity (twice! if you think of Abstinence as a synonym): Humility, Kindness, Abstinence, Chastity, Patience, Liberality, and Diligence. So maybe that's the list they work from. Although I don't see a whole lot of humility or kindess from that crew, so maybe not.

I am willing to bet they do count it twice. One for don't do it; two of don't even think about doing it. I never heard of Contrary Virtues. Are those the ones we are supposed to avoid?

Re: x

It does sound like that, doesn't it? :) No, those are the virtues that are set up in exact opposition to the deadly sins. (Chastity vs. Lust, Abstinence vs. Gluttony, etc.) The heavenly virtues are the ones that are just good in and of themselves. Or something like that.

More than you could ever possibly want to know.

[identity profile] owlmoose.livejournal.com 2006-02-05 06:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Perhaps so. There is definitely a sleekness to them that cats of other colors often can't match.

Was Smut a black-on-black tabby? Lexi is. You can see the stripes in the right kind of light, with a pattern almost exactly like Tori's stripes.

[identity profile] furitaurus.livejournal.com 2006-02-05 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I have no idea of Smut and Smokey's lineage. All i know is that Smut was completely black, not a shade of another colour on him and Smokey is completely grey.
