Internet blues

So last night I was chatting with a couple of people and finishing up a drabble and about to cast about for a quick beta read. And the Internet decided that this would be a good time to die.

That's right. Die. Suddenly and completely. I lost my connection to both the outside world and the in-house network, which is an unusual combination -- usually if the DSL goes down I can still get to the music files on T's computer. T got his machine to connect via dial-in, and he was able to determine that the problem wasn't on our DSL provider's end. His best guess is that his DSL modem crashed. The firewall on his computer doesn't play well with mine, so until he either gets that straightened out, or until the modem is replaced or spontaneously heals itself, I won't have Internet access on my home computer.

*Re-reads that sentence, goes into a corner to curl up in a ball and twitch for a minute*

Okay, I'm better now. Still, I am more than a little freaked out over this. If it's not fixed by the time I get home, I'm not sure what I'm going to do with myself.

I

There is nobody on your FL who can sympathize more deeply or empathize more profoundly. It is like being a total heroin addict who suddenly loses his supplier. The world goes all grey and bleak. The hours stretch endlessly and, even if you would not be using the 'Net, the fact that you cannot makes all other pursuits flavourless. Yes, I do understand and hope your problem is quickly solved. :(

I thought you might know the feeling. It's been awhile since I lost the network completely -- I can't even imagine what it's like for it to die on you on a regular basis. It's a little scary, how much we come to depend on that connection.

T should be awake and at work in a couple of hours, and I expect know more then.

you know, I was just thinking that I need to go somewhere with no internet connection so that I can actually get some work done :S

I have days like that too. But usually at work, not so much at home.
