Because I'm made of free time for new fandom projects...

Some of you may have heard about the new fandom wiki, Fanlore. Since this hits lots of my buttons (fun new online tools! organizing the Internet! fandom meta!), I've been looking forward to this launch for awhile, and I have been unable to resist getting involved. (I actually had to talk myself down from volunteering to beta-test before launch.)

So last night, I sat down and (with some help from [livejournal.com profile] bottle_of_shine) wrote up this:

http://fanlore.org/wiki/Final_Fantasy

It's just a skeleton right now, and the only game with its own page is FFVII (because someone already created that one), and this is where the rest of you all come in. I've only been in this fandom for about three years, and my involvement has been largely with one small corner of it. I don't know that much about it's history or its wider online presence. I really want our fandom to be well represented here, but I can't do it alone. So come join me! Make a page for your favorite canon, or fill in the gaps somewhere else, or join in the conversation about how the section should be organized.

So speaking of that, how *should* the section be organized? Is there another macrofandom like Final Fantasy, with multiple unrelated universes? I had thought of Star Trek as a comparison, because not everyone in that fandom is involved with all the canons, but it's still one big universe. Very different from FF, and not everyone outside our fandom understands that. Thoughts?

Aw, shit. ;) You and Nay are going to be the death of me.

Mwa-ha-ha-ha!!

Glad I am not the only one to be inappropriately tempted... Seriously, though, how awesome could you make the FFIV page? *So Awesome*

AUGH! YOU EVIL TEMPTRESS.

Unfortunately, I see Final Fantasy a hell of a lot differently than a lot of people do, so even though I've been here for a long time, I don't trust myself to give a wholly impartial account of things.

I'll cheer you on, though. \o/

Actually, one of the cool things about this wiki is that it doesn't force any pretense of neutrality. Check out their policy on Plural Point of View. I think this is a great idea -- people are going to have biases and personal feelings about things, so why not embrace that truth rather than fighting it?

Either way, your cheering is appreciated, of course. :)

I hadn't noticed that; it's a pretty awesome stance to take. :o

>_>

Alright, count me in. And feel free to hit me with a trout or something on the off chance I become overly neurotic about anything stupid. ^^;

Yay. :) I promise I will only break out the trout in case of dire need...

Oh, sadness! You have such a unique perspective, I would hate to see it not represented. I've been following the wiki announcements and it definitely seems like they're dedicated to embracing many, many fans and the perspective of those fans. Therefore, I ditto KJ's comment.
