Whenever I complain about how cold I am, here in the Bay Area, where I know intellectually that it's not "really" cold, this is what I'm talking about.
That is much the way it is here in Atlanta. We have had temperatures in the 60s and 70s and I still shiver at twilight (and still sleep with a window open).
Ah, see, it's been more like mid to low 40s here. Sometimes even dipping near freezing at night -- and it did freeze at higher altitude, some of the mountains have snow!
I remember a few years ago I went down during winter break to visit my grandmother in Texas. I was coming from the usual Vermont January "week of negative zero"; the day I arrived in Texas, there had been a "freak snow storm" (read: heavy frost) and everyone was in parkas and freaking out and talking about it. Meanwhile, it was 34 compared to -10, so I was walking around in a light sweater. The next day, when it got up to 40-50, I pretty much wore a tee-shirt, and was giving suspicious looks wherever I went (My grandmother kept nagging me to put on a sweater, at least, wasn't I freezing, I mean come on).
It's an annual thing in VT, too, where we get out freezing cold week and then a few days of weather in the low thirties. Everyone in town is so warm and cozy we wear light sweaters, and you can instantly spot the tourists/skiers because they're the only ones still in parkas.
We got that in Iowa, too -- the "January thaw". Although it usually got warmer than that, and we'd start having delusions about an early spring. It never came through, though, and more often than not we'd have a blizzard come Easter...
but then I remember when I got back from spending a summer in souther Turkey, where the average daytime temperature was around 120 (and no AC anywhere), I was really cold when I got back to 80 degree NY...

Also, I know you'll probably be busy, but if you'd like to get together for coffee while you're here, drop me a line! :)

I'm juggling like a fiend, but I come in Saturday and will be floating between the Fairmont, the Marriott, and the Parc 55 between 5 and 9 PM...
