more updating

Thirteen is finished and up. Amazing how productive I can be when I have a nasty cold that makes me unfit to do much more than sit in front of a computer. On such lovely summer days, too. Bleah.

Twelve and Thirteen came much more quickly and easily than Ten and Eleven. I needed to agonize much less over them. I suppose that's to be expected, given the emotional punch and importance of the earlier chapters; these last two are lighter overall, although not without their key moments.

I only have a small scene of Fourteen drafted, so that chapter may be a while in coming. Of course, I've said that before...

The very last section of Thirteen has blown me away. Of course, it has been obvious how she felt for a long time but to hear her admit it so openly, so helplessly ... my goodness!

How do you manage to work so fast and yet polish so well?

When chapters come one after the other like this, it's because I'm inspired and the initial draft comes really quickly. Of course, it is very bad at that point, not much more than a jumble of words on the page. Then I can take some leisure to edit, then polish.

It doesn't always go this quickly. "Chasing My Past" took over two months to complete to my satisfaction. I don't know whether I'm writing faster now because I'm back in practice (I think I may have mentioned to you that "Chasing My Past" was the first piece of fiction that I wrote to completion in well over ten years) or because I have you all to inspire me; mostly the latter is my guess.

It seems we are all battening off one another.
