30 Days of Writing: Always on My Mind
29. How often do you think about writing? Ever come across something IRL that reminds you of your story/characters?
The answer to this question is yes, and the fact that it's even asked makes me wonder whether the person who came up with the list of questions was, themselves, a writer. Especially its second half; for me, and for most of the writers I've talked to about writing, the world is a story factory. I never know what is going to spark the creative impulse, or give me a plot bunny, or show me another way of thinking about a story or character. Non-fiction writing, too -- I can't tell you how many times I've found myself composing a journal entry in my head: thinking about the best way to write up the events of a day, or gathering material for a serious business post.
I don't particularly expect or intend to become a professional writer at this point. I'm happy writing fanfic, I'm not particularly inspired to write origfic, and I don't have the drive I think it would take to make it as a freelancer. But I can't really think of writing as a "hobby", either, because "writer" is so much a part of my identity that it doesn't seem right to keep it in that small of a box.
