After literally years of slow deterioration, I have finally replaced my car stereo. The old unit had all kinds of problems -- I couldn't always control the volume, or the sound would literally cut out entirely, sometimes for hours. It has a CD player, something I've never had in my car before. More importantly, it also has a line-in, which means no more wrestling with adaptors to play my iPod in the car. Whee!

The installation didn't go as smoothly as might have been hoped. I bought the unit online. The store had an option to purchase installation at a local store, but there were all kinds of weirdnesses with arranging appointments and having to buy all kinds of weird accompanying equipment. T did a bunch of research and decided that he thought he could install it himself, so I skipped it. Well, he was able to install it in the end, but the whole process took five hours (he thinks it probably should have taken about two) and he's still not convinced it's in there right. I think it's likely fine, but it doesn't quite meet his standards of perfection. Well, as long as it plays and isn't trivially easy to steal, I'm happy. And I think we made it on both counts.

Things continue as usual otherwise. My shoulder is whining at me a little after its first day back in full use. Possibly because I carried laundry baskets up and down stairs. Nothing serious. I did my new exercises and they seemed to go fine. Also got some writing done, about half a chapter, and I think it came out pretty well.

Also, more lines. I am completely shocked that one of these is still unanswered. Maybe this will be the giveaway.

Sounds like you had a useful day. Is it not nice to have an in-house techie?

Do behave with your shoulder. When you are tempted to overdo it, think another month of the immobilizer. That should keep you straight.

Are you having difficulties with AGL? I had become spoiled by your rapid updating during Confessional. ;)

Very much so. Why do you think I married him? ;) (Okay, there were other reasons, too.)

re: AGL -- my writing pace has always been slower on this story than it was on The Confessional. Also I have less time to write lately, my life being rather busier right now than it was during the summer. But yes, there are a few difficulties to iron out, largely (as you have sensed) in the Liss story. For so long her primary motivation has been finding out about her father's past. Now she basically knows what she needs to know, and I am flailing with her a little bit. I have things for her to do later, but getting her to that point is the difficultly.

I think I know exactly what you mean. Children at the age where they are making the transition to adulthood are so difficult. They are so moody and touchy, taking offense where none is offered and wildly vacillating from one emotion to another. Too bad we can't let them work their tensions off with one another. ;-)

Now *there's* a crossover idea! Too bad about the ten year time separation... Nooj would be too old for her by the time we get to AGL. Plus the whole being dead problem.

I had momentarily forgotten that you are dealing with teenagers right now as well. Of course, we were all writing teenagers in The Confessional, but this feels different somehow. I always have to remind myself of Paine's youth when I write her during the time period of the games. I never have to remind myself that Liss is still basically a girl.

Well, I will work it out. I am sort of resigned to the idea that the Liss sections won't be as strong as the others for awhile. I do think the later bits that I have planned out will work better. I hope.
