What the hell, Delicious?

I mean, seriously. What the hell? Was there any kind of warning on this? Any secret "preview our new service!" opportunity? Because if not.... wow.

Guess it's time to leave. You all know I am generally for riding out the changes with free Internet services, but not when they totally break them overnight. Any recommendations for other bookmarking tools? For my purposes, the only real problem is not being able to see all my tags, but what a problem to have. How is a bookmarking service useful if I can only get to a handful of randomly-selected tags?

Bleh.

Supposedly delicious gave warning many months ago but I didn't see it. I do remember receiving a final warning about 2 to 3 weeks ago so, luckily, I was able to save my hardly used account. The warning was pretty dire: agree to the new terms of service by September X (don't remember date) else be forever locked out of your account.

Very uncool on their part.

(Delicious was sold to new owners and that's why there was a change in ToS, but their handling of it seems just a bit draconian.)

Giant Uh-oh. I haven't had a chance to log into the new delicious yet and your experience surely does not sound good. -_-

If I find a good bookmarking service I will let you know---please, if you find a better alternative, make a quick post about it?

I just logged into the new delicious and WTF???? Are they serious? Did business people, in their infinite wisdom, decide that tagging is so 2007 and nooooobody needs/does tags anymore??? (Much less nested tags)

Whoa... I'm seriously sad thinking about all the great work the FF-Press team has done day after day, month after month, year after year, and how delicious appears to have freaking ruined the awesome set of FF fandom links+tagset that they created. o_o

Very sad. D:

Hopefully someone more delicious savvy than I will tell me this isn't so. ):

tag update

[personal profile] sarasa_cat 2011-09-27 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Apparently tags still exist as before (copied from http://www.delicious.com/help):

Are tags the same?

Tags function the same way, except that now we support multi-word tags. For example, you can add the tag "San Francisco" without underscores or other symbol tricks, and we will recognize it as a single tag. Separate your tags with commas so we know what words belong together.

...

The only problem is that I'm not clued enough with this far too new interface and, when I do manage to find a tag and click on it, I get broken webpage errors from their site. I cannot understand why they would downgrade functionality like this.

Well, Diigo is owned by Google, so that's making me leery. Pinboard is apparently inexpensive and paid, but I'm hearing a lot of people make noises about that.

....I'm suddenly really glad that when Delicious got sold, I exported everything....

You can indeed! I went back and found it just in case I'd added any since I last did it--I think it was under settings, though I might be forgetting (already, jeez, it was only 10 minutes ago.)

I'm--I want to write a complaint, but I fell asleep sometime around 1 am last night for reasons TOTALLY UNRELATED (oh my God football what Redskins what is that thing you have just done) and I don't even think I'm coherent.

I just. Wow.

As I told Sev and Renay earlier today: dollars to donuts in a week something comes along offering to restore the old features in exchange for paid membership.

I'm just pissed it took me until 3pm to realize that that was very likely what was going on.

I also really dislike that they established a separate email address for complaints--with such a snarky link, too--which tells me (as a reasonably intelligent Internet user) that they have already decided to send everything to the circular file that comes in via that email.

Let me know what you think of Pinboard! I'm eyeing it with some interest, and I really like the justification for why it is cost-y (see also the justification for present site on which we are communicating charging for accounts), but I'm not sure I use those kinds of services enough.

I think I will probably use the Feedback link when I have the brainpower to create a nuanced and thoughtful explanation for why EVERYTHING SUCKS AND SO DO YOU. Because that one might *actually* get to a human being. Eventually.
