Question for DA folks

So one of my favorite events on the Final Fantasy fandom calendar is the Kiss Battle. It's happened every February, in some form or another, for many years now, since 2007 I think? And I dearly hope it runs again this year, because it's always a highlight for me.

The other day, I got to wondering: is there anything similar in Dragon Age fandom?

And if not, should there be?

One thing that gives me pause is the apparent migration of DA fandom to Tumblr. Tumblr is great for a lot of fandom projects, but probably not this one -- it's similar in format to a kinkmeme, and so it depends on threaded comments and replies. Dreamwidth would be the perfect platform (or maybe LJ, but the recent changes to the commenting system make following comment threads wonky at best), but in my experience, there isn't a whole lot of DA fandom activity here, even less than on LiveJournal. Would people even participate if it were hosted on DW?

Anyway, I'm probably putting the cart in front of the horse with this concern; the most relevant question right now is whether a critical mass of people would be interested at all. What do you all think? Or, if such a community/project already exists, please point me there! Thanks. :)

I would do it on either DW or AO3, but I'm not really very invested in giving LJ more content, and I absolutely would not want to do it on tumblr for the reasons you mentioned above.

However, I'm really interested in the idea! Yay kiss battles!

AO3 is great for giving the stories a permanent home, but I'm not sure it really supports the kind of fast-and-furious posting of shortfic I remember from the heyday of the Kiss Battle. That's the thing I most love about fic battles, when they work.

The real question is: could we get critical mass? This type of thing works better, I think, when you have a fair number of people prompting and writing and reading, to keep things moving.

Be the revolutionary. Channel your inner Anders. If there is not a DA Kiss battle on DA (or LJ), then now is a good time to endorse that idea.

I think that would be an AWESOME idea. And I think you could get it to work on LJ/DW - you're right that Tumblr doesn't allow for that kind of meme, and enough people still play on the kink meme that I think it'd be just a matter of advertising and prodding to get people to come play on LJ/DW, either with accounts or anon. There are still people playing over here - cherith and I have been pleasantly surprised at how many people are signing up for the Women of Dragon Age thing!

But Tumblr would be the place to advertise it, most definitely. The one thing that Tumblr is good for is getting a large number of people to see something in the shortest amount of time. :D
