Doctor Who
So I finally gave in and watched the first season of Doctor Who (new Who, that is; I've seen a couple episodes of the original series but that's all). I started a few months ago, in fits and starts, then the second half of the season over the last few days. I am enjoying it, quite a bit, even though I've been spoiled for rather a lot via fannish osmosis, at least in terms of when major characters make their exits. For example, I knew going in that Christopher Eccleston only played the Doctor for one season, so I wasn't broken up over his death at the end of the last episode, though it was still sad to see the effects on Rose. And it will be interesting to see how she adjusts to Ten. I'm also interested to see how I will adjust to Ten, because I adored Nine, a lot. Eccleston brought so much to the character — I loved his sense of humor, the way his emotions could turn on a dime, the depths of grief that kept winking out from behind the chipper facade, the real respect and fondness with which he treated both Rose and Jack.
I also like Jack and Rose both: Jack is fun, and adorable, and I appreciate how his sexuality is just there -- another part of his character, like his hacker skills and his history as a con artist, not a big deal, that he kissed both Rose and the Doctor goodbye in exactly the same way. Rose seems to have a ways left to grow, but I like that about her. Right off the bat she's bold and quick-thinking, but like a real girl would be, not like a superhero. I wish we'd gotten some more detail about the Bad Wolf thing, about how she planted the clues in time that led her back to save the space station from the Daleks, but maybe we'll get more on that in the next season.
I also want more on what exactly happened with the Time War. And if Daleks survived, maybe there are more Time Lords out there, somewhere. I know (again from fannish osmosis) that the Master appears later, so maybe others might as well. I'm happy to keep watching, so we shall see.

Nine was my favorite Doctor, personally, probably because he was my first. (Okay, technically Four was my first, but Doctor Who scared me as a kid so that doesn't count.) Rest assured, however, that David Tennant is a fabulous Doctor. It took a while for him to grow on me, but he did, and I look forward to future discussions about your take on him and Rose and other characters as they grow.
Also, I recommend checking out the Torchwood spin-off, which is set some time after Season 2, I believe. It's a bit darker but it has lots of Jack Harkness being adorable and sexy, so it's definitely worth a peak.
And any time you want to squee and/or rage at someone, you know where to find me, because Doctor Who is something I am always, always willing to fangirl about.

Matt Smith is cute, and Eccleston has his charms, but there's no question that, to me, David Tennent is the most attractive doctor. The smile, the eyes, the mop of hair... yeah.

Torchwood has...moments. Like it sometimes seems to be trying to hard to not be Doctor Who. But there's lots of Jack, so there's that.
Re: Ten questioning his identity. The Eighth Doctor did quite a bit of that too, throughout his brief 90-minute existence. I read somewhere (and I can't remember if this is canon or just fan conjecture) that the Doctor's regenerations are possibly influenced by the experiences of his previous incarnation; i.e. Eight was a really pleasant guy pre-Time War, but Nine is rough and moody, and Ten is a bit sweeter because of Nine's relationships with Rose and Jack (which leads me to wonder why Eleven is so goofy, considering all the crap Ten eventually goes through). It's an interesting theory, all things considered, and it might explain why Ten is so "omg what is this I don't even" because it's such an abrupt change, not just for Rose, but for him.

It is an interesting theory; do you know how well it holds up based on the older series?

There are a lot of inconsistencies between the current series and the old show, so I'm not really 100% sure how that theory holds up with past incarnations, if at all. The only Classic Doctor I'm really familiar with is Four, so my personal understanding is limited at best. I do know, however, that the first Doctor died of old age (of all things) and one of his regenerations is forced onto him by the other Time Lords as some kind of punishment. Then there was the time when this weird, bald ghost thing called The Watcher merged with the Doctor to create a new regeneration of something. IT GETS WEIRD, OKAY? It definitely warrants further investigation, though, but that's a bit hard since roughly a third of the old series was lost in a fire or something.
I should really look all this up, shouldn't I?

(Ha, I just discovered that all my DW-related icons are a bit spoilery, in that they are of characters you wouldn't have seen yet, so I am holding back.)

I have heard that about Moffat and Who, as well. Given "Sherlock" (which I like, but there are definitely Issues), that doesn't surprise me too much, but I'll have to see how it all sits with me.
