Questions and Answers

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January? All those Ace Attorney fics come as a bit of a surprise.

What's your own favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest? Maybe "You Have 76 New Messages". It was certainly the most fun to write.

Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them? I guess the FFX fairy tale story. I'm not sure it worked, but I did approach it with a different style/mindset than usual.

Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year? Goals post will go up later today.

From my past year of writing, what was...

My best story of this year: No obvious choice this year.

My most popular story of this year: The story with the most hits is "Hot Water". Large fandom, check; porn, check; written for an active community (it's a Porn Battle story), check. It's also the only story I wrote this year to crack my top 20 on AO3. It got the most kudos as well. Bonus choice: "Rebuild", which received a very nice in-depth rec (thanks to [personal profile] renay for pointing me toward it).

Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: I'd probably pick "Et Incarnatus Est" -- I really liked what I did with that concept, but it got few hits and no one wanted to talk about it. Then again people hardly ever discuss my fic with me these days.

Most fun story to write: As mentioned above, "You Have 76 New Messages".

Story with the single sexiest moment: I don't see how anything other than "Hot Water" gets the nod here.

Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: "Rebuild", which I wrote largely to get more into Dona's headspace, and I feel like it worked.

Hardest story to write: "Down to Me and You". I really wanted to write a Queen Anora story that was distinct from "Ode to Power", and it was more difficult than I expected to force myself into the new space.

Biggest Disappointment: Just how little I wrote this year overall, and how many goals/projects I failed to complete. I'll get into more detail when I do my writing goals wrap-up.

Biggest Surprise: Actually, nothing

Most Unintentionally Telling Story: I'm not sure I have one of those this year.

In conclusion: Not the greatest year of writing, though not the worst either. I put out more good stuff than I remembered. That's maybe the best effect of preparing this annual list, along with reminding me to get all my Tumblr fic archived.
