Random life update

After a couple of years of knowing we needed a new mattress and not doing anything about it, we bought one, and it was delivered yesterday. We've switched from a spring-based mattress to memory foam, for a number of reasons, but a big one is that I tend to toss and turn in my sleep, and T liked the idea of not being bounced around anymore. Last night's results were encouraging. The only downside is that it's outgassing (which is to be expected), and gas has a particular, peculiar odor -- it makes me think of cookie dough, but with a really chemically undertone. Fortunately, it's already dissipating.

I feel like I ought to have other stuff to talk about, but I'm really blanking a little bit. What else happened last week? I watched the last Jon Stewart Daily Show as it aired, and it was a lovely tribute, but it also made me sad. I'm coming to really enjoy Larry Wilmore's show (at least the scripted parts -- I feel like the panel segment still needs work), and John Oliver has definitely come into his own with Last Week Tonight, but it's not quite the same. I think he was right to leave -- I've been seeing the signs of senioritis since even before he announced that he was quitting -- but I'm still going to miss him, a lot.

Mostly I'm posting because I said I was going to post twice a week, and the week is almost up. The way to get into a habit is to do the thing, rather than to find excuses not to do the thing. I used to post about life events and trivialities all the time, and I miss doing that. So let's see how this goes.

Trivialities are often the most interesting parts of life, or so I think. I also need to get back into the habit of posting regularly (or at least posting stuff that's not just cross-posted from my professional blog).

I hope things settle well with the bed.

We switched to memory foam earlier this year and haven't looked back. Once you get used to it, your joints will thank you.
