new story

I just posted my story for [livejournal.com profile] iamleaper's Secret Santa fic exchange, here. This is the first time I've ever taken a stab at slash (hmm, bad metaphor?), so I'm a little nervous about putting it out there. It was fun to write, though -- this is the first time I've written a story to specifications, so to speak, and I found it an interesting challenge. I may seek out more like that once AGL is finished.

Thanks. :)

Shall you try more of the Gippal and/or Baralai flavour?

Entirely possible. I rather like writing Baralai. Gippal doesn't come as naturally to me, but perhaps with practice.

I am sorry I cannot think of any Baralai/Nooj interactions. I still have my slash virginity. LOL

Baralai/Nooj

If a plotbunny ever comes to me on that subject, should I let you know? Or are some things better left unexplored? ;) I doubt I will ever go there myself since I'm incapable of seriously pairing Nooj with anyone other than Paine. Well, except Leblanc. That pesky canon thing, you know.

I've had a little B/N scene in my head for a while, but I've just never bothered writing it. The fact that they were both possessed by Shuyin and made to turn on their friends gives them some common emotional ground. You know that scene in OotP where Harry's being a git and Ginny says something along the lines of "You're not the only person here who's been possessed by Voldemort, you know"? A bit like that, with Baralai as the Ginny figure.

Now that is a thought. It's never occured to me before, but you are absolutely right, it does. The comparison to H/G is quite interesting. Hmm.

If you ever wrote that, I would love to see it.

Probably not. I simply cannot form an image of Nooj in bed with poor little 'Lai. It would be rape. Actually, even though I have said Nooj would sail into any port at grave need, I do not think I can write what he does when he gets there. Funny. I have no problem writing about his sadism and cannot write about an alternative form of love. I do not know why since I have interacted with the GBLT community easo;y all my life. Hmmmm. I must give this some thought. It is disconcerting.

I can understand that, both that you are not sure you could write it and that this fact makes you uncomfortable. I doubt that I could write explicit slash either, at least not without a lot of pushing through weirdness. This fade-to-black approach was much easier. Of course, I'm not fully comfortable writing explicit het either. So, for me at least, it might be more about weird societal hangups regarding sex in general than discomfort with the gay aspect.

I well remember my first explicit scene. I howled with laughter and eventually had to re-write it five or more times. I had the devil's own time pushing past my sense of the ridiculous. The 'beast with two backs' is an inherently absurd image. I also remind myself that I had to be tutored by some others over at SF about the exact mechanics of face to face gay connections and still find the idea of legs waving around ears hysterically (and genuinely) hilarious. The N/P relationship was writable because it served a real purpose in revealing his gradual change in attitude over a period of time and some of the other scenes I have written are equally story driven. When I have the leisure, I think I shall set myself the task of doing a gay scene - not Nooj (I just cannot visualize that) but some other pairing just to see if I can. LOL
