Fic Year in Review: 2019
In comparison to previous years, this is going to be pretty sad, but for completeness sake.
By canon, then order of publication. Like last year, it's missing my Critmas Exchange story, which won't be published until tomorrow -- I'll include it in next year's list.

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January? Going back to Babylon 5 and dipping my toe in the Arrowverse
What's your own favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest? "Deferred Maintenance"
Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them? Bit off more than I could chew with "In Death, Sacrifice". It wanted to be an epic, and I had neither the time nor the drive to write an epic, so it ends up feeling half-finished.
Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year? I need to think about this, and how. More thoughts below.
From my past year of writing, what was...
My best story of this year: Probably "Deferred Maintenance" -- it was a challenge to make the linked drabbles work, and I was quite pleased with how well it worked.
My most popular story of this year: "Every Word" is top of the list in hits and kudos, and second in comments (after "Options"), so definitely that.
Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: "In Death, Sacrifice", especially when you compare the amount of love it got with the amount of work put into it.
Most fun story to write: "Deferred Maintenance" or "Every Word"
Story with the single sexiest moment: None this year, which is interesting.
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: Nothing in here either.
Hardest story to write: "In Death, Sacrifice", without question. I spent a lot of time staring into space and/or metaphorically banging my head against the keyboard. I wish I'd been able to pull harder on the threads connecting Warden Mahariel and Vax, because I feel I never quite uncovered it.
Biggest Disappointment: Once again, not making much progress on "Wardens of Ivalice, Part 3". I really don't want to put this one on hiatus, but I'm also having a hard time motivating myself to work on it. I need to think about what I will do.
Biggest Surprise: Just how uninspired and unmotivated I was to write fic overall. A surprise because I soaked up so much new canon this year, between playing the old and new Kingdom Hearts games, a few rewatches, and getting invested in Arrowverse. Normally that kind of immersion in new universes leads to fic. Not this year. I think the lack of a community to toss ideas around with is a big part of it. But it can't be the whole reason, because in the past my first few fic ideas have come first, before seeking out the fandom community.
Most Unintentionally Telling Story: I can't think of a good one for this question.
In Conclusion
I am seriously thinking about taking a hiatus from fic in 2020 and focusing on non-fiction writing instead. Not that I won't write fic if inspired, and I'll probably sign up for at least a couple of exchanges, and I need to consider whether officially back-burnering "Wardens of Ivalice" is a good idea or a terrible idea. I want writing fanfiction to be fun, not a chore, and it increasingly felt like a chore this year. What that looks like, I haven't figured out yet. Conversation on this topic is more than welcome.
