December:
1. Write 5 days a week I did manage this.
2. Write and post my story for
critmas_exchange, which is due on December 27th. Completed and posted with about 24 hours to spare.
3. Write and post at least one
ladiesbingo story. Nope. I have a feeling this card is now dead in the water.
4. Work on Wardens of Ivalice at least one day each week. I never even opened the file once, which, well, let's talk about that a little more below.
2019:
1. Write at least 240 days (an average of 20 days/month), with a stretch goal of writing 125,000 words. I hit this with a little room to spare, mostly thanks to the push in November, but I fell far, far short of my stretch goal, and my stricter definition of "writing day" was out the window before the end of January.
2. Post to my own journal at least two days each week. Post to Lady Business at least once per month (not counting regularly scheduled posts). Missed on Lady Business. Hit or miss on my own space, although I feel like I did reasonably okay most months.
3. Write something about every book I read, every movie and show I watch, and every narrative game I play. I did okayish with books, but it took creating the Monday Media Musings series to get any traction with the rest. I'm pretty happy with my decision to do the weekly wrap-up, though.
4. Finish and post Wardens of Ivalice Part 3. Ha ha ha ha ha. Ha.
5. Participate in at least five fandom fic projects, whether those be exchanges, Big Bangs, completed bingo cards, or whatever catches my eye. Additionally, write and post at least two fics that are NOT in response to a request or a prompt. I completed both of these goals by the end of September!
I mentioned on my Fic Year in Review post that I was thinking about taking a break from fic writing. Not that I will refuse to write fic if ideas strike me -- the exact opposite, in fact -- but a hiatus from pushing myself to do it, from forcing the words to come no matter how intrigued or inspired I am... or I am not. This feels counterintuitive to me in many ways, because for my first several years in fandom, I found that writing was the thing that got me out of the rut. But if those charts above say anything to me, it's that the rut is now a groove, and if I keep rolling hard down this road, I may wear this groove so deep that I'm never getting out. So here's my thought: keep writing, but focus on journaling and other non-fiction writing, not on fanfic. But keep myself open to the possibility of fic, maybe sign up for a challenge or two, and see what happens.
To that end, annual goals:
1. Hit the 240-day Habit Pledge goal for
getyourwordsout.
2. Post in my journal at least two days per week (not counting Monday Media Musings) and write a full post for Lady Business at least once per month (outside of contributing to group projects.
3. At the end of each quarter, consider whether to add some goal relating to fic to this list.
4. Add every book to Goodreads within a week of finishing it, and continue the Monday Media Musings series.
Goals for January:
1. Participate in
snowflake_challenge again.
2. Write at least 5 days per week.
3. Finish the Person of Interest essay and post it.
It's hard to think of goals that aren't fic specific. Either it'll come with time, or I'll realize that I really do want to be working on fic, too. But for now I want to take the pressure off. We'll see how it goes.
