La la la

Is it cheating if I start writing a post two minutes before midnight?

So I have almost survived my concert week. The first show was tonight, and it went pretty well -- we muffed a few bits in the fifth movement, but that's the advantage of performing a world premiere: you can guarantee that no one in the audience knows how it's supposed to go. The soprano soloist is marvelous, one of the best we've ever had. Excellent range, good tone all the way up and down, and a perfect sound for this piece.

But boy am I tired. For some reason the week of opening shifts has taken a harder toll on me than usual. Between that and the dress rehearsals going later than usual, I really feel like I'm burning the candle at both ends. So please forgive me if my posting is inadequate to my usual high standards for NaBloWriMo -- I will get back on the horse of real writing next week.

I don't see how it can be cheating, and I'm impressed that it took you under 60 seconds to POST.

I take 10 minutes just to play with tags and pick out a title and LJ icon.

Well, the secret is that the timestamp is from the moment you open the "post an entry" page. So the time on the post is when I started writing it. I didn't actually *post* it until at least 15 minutes later. That's where the cheating comes in. ;)

We had our opening night last night as well. Soloists were great, everything was great, and then I missed the bus home and had to crash at somebody's house. >.

Nothing better after a concert than having to sleep on a strange bed/couch/floor! Hope you are recovered this morning.

What pieces did you do?

We're doing Carmina Burana, but the orchestra (I'm in the choir) also has a couple of new compositions that I actually really enjoyed. (New music tends to be hit or miss with me.)

What are you doing?

The last concert was today. We did Bernstein's Chichester Psalms and a new requiem by a local composer (Brian Holmes). I liked them both a lot. I agree about new music being hit-or-miss -- the classics are classic for a reason, you know? I'm sure there's plenty of uninspired classical stuff that no one bothers to perform anymore.

The Carmina is a lot of fun, but I have to confess that I'm a little burned out on it. I've been in my current chorus since 1995, and in that time, we've performed it in three separate years, including this last Winter quarter. So hopefully we'll get a little bit of a rest from it.

This was my first time, so I was pretty jazzed. Plus, we were doing some fun things with it (throwing confetti at the beginning of Floret), so I think even people who had done it before were having a good time!
