AGL 20 is up.
I spent practically all day Saturday writing. Between the frenzy and bits and pieces that were already written, 21, 22, and 23 are all in pretty much finished state, along with most of what will probably be 25 or 26.
Good lord, this thing has gotten long. Including the chapters referenced above, I'm not even near Zanarkand yet. How did I end up practically writing a novel? 64,000 words, and I might be half done, maybe. I hope my loyal readers don't get bored...
Speaking of whom, in case any of said loyal readers are reading this, have I told you lately how much I appreciate you all, especially those of you who review? Even the criticism -- especially the criticism, how else am I supposed to become a better writer? -- is very welcome. Maybe I'm not getting the hundreds of reviews that other authors pick up, but it's great to know that there's an audience that appreciates what I'm doing.

Chap 21 feedback
(Anonymous) 2005-06-21 06:56 am (UTC)(link)Back to chapter 21.
This is the first time I've read that Kinoc married the woman who was proposed to Auron. It's so obvious that I wonder why no one wrote it before..
To my opinion, you've got two keypoints in this chapter:
1. how are you going to go on regarding the organization of the story? as you said in the prologue, there are two parallel stories. Now you've got three, I think. a) Auron backstory b) Braska pilgrimage c) Lissira's story
If you're planning to go through Braska pilgrimage, maybe that it should be another story entirely, as it has nothing to do with Lissira or her mother.
2. assuming you're going to go through Braska pilgrimage; you pointed out an excellent point: Jecht doesn't know about the final summoning. There a Jecht sphere in the Japanese version that doesn't exist in the international version. In that sphere, Jecht said something like (adressing Braska) "You never tell me anything, anyway". I think Jecht ignorance is a key point.

In the FFX section, there's a thread called: "Spira true history". Precious information there.
Keep going on, great stories are seldom!

Re: Chap 21 feedback
I don't have the spheres memorized, but I remember them pretty well and found a good script for them. Unfortunately, I'm not anywhere near a game save where I could pick them up and watch them again.
In response to point one, I plan to carry Auron's story on through its end. So that does mean covering Braska's pilgrimage, and Yuna's as well, but I don't intend to detail every step of the way (in Ch. 22, which is largely written, I jump from Macalania to Luca, for example. And in Luca, I'm just telling my own story, not writing out the sphere). I only intend to include the parts of the pilgrimages that directly relate to Auron's life story as I'm telling it.
As for point two, I agree -- not much is made of that in the US version of the game (don't know if that's the same as the International version), but it seems to be a key thing, and I'm going to explore it a little bit, although not too much since Jecht isn't my main character.
I am really glad that you're liking the story, and I hope it continues to live up to expectations!
