another update
I tweaked a couple more things and then declared 28 finished last night. It's now up.
This chapter is so momentous in terms of the story arc, I feel like I ought to have more to say about it, but I really don't. Perhaps because the chapter doesn't really come from me; so much of it was dictated by canon. I did attempt to put my own stamp on it, to reconcile it with the Auron I have been writing for so many months, and I think I was successful.
Using the Yunalesca and spirit guide dialog from Yuna's visit to Zanarkand was a conscious choice on my part -- it seems likely to me that these two would have a script of sorts for the summoners coming for the Final Aeon, since they've probably gone through it so many times, and each new arrival likely has the same questions. Plus, it saved me from having to come up with new words saying exactly the same thing, which to me would ring much more false.
I have about one paragraph of 29 written. This one is going to be a challenge. I know exactly what needs to happen and have some good ideas of how to go about it, but forcing myself to put words to screen is another matter. Killing your hero is not an easy task.
And now, to get through the day on four hours sleep; ugh. The fire alarm went off at an ungodly hour, and I couldn't get back to sleep afterwards. I was able to take yesterday off, a comp day for a weekend I worked in June, and it was glorious -- perfect weather, time to read and write and play, some quality husband time since he was working from home. Normally, I would be rested and rejuvenated after such a vacation at home, but not today. Blah.
