It is always a sad joy to come to the end of a long journey. You may comfort yourself with the knowledge you have done well and given much pleasure on the way. And that there are journeys yet to come. ;)
While it is true that I am not nearly done with Spira, my travels with Auron may well be drawing to a close. There's an outtake that may make a one-shot, but otherwise I really feel like I've said all I have to say about him. So that's a little saddening.
Unless we are inspired some day to do that Auron/Nooj AU idea that we have thrown around in the past, find a way to collaboratively put them into the same story. Hmm, maybe I should find a different way to express this. That slash back there is not meant to imply a romantic relationship between them. Talk about a crack pairing. Although... no! Bad plot bunny! Down! ;)
I trust you are fully aware that I have just collapsed into a helpless heap of laughter. A dead man and a half-man in bed together deciding who will use what to do which to whom. Too much! Although it could work...
Seriously, we seem to be about at the same place in our respective stories. I am two maybe three chapters from the end which will have him on the brink of going to the recruitment camp of the Crimson Squad which is, of course, where the Confessional takes up. Therefore, being eager to work with you again, I am ready to entertain any plot armatures you can come up with. It would be a great project to begin the new year. Let's think really hard. OK?
I trust you are fully aware that I have just collapsed into a helpless heap of laughter.
:)
Although it could work...
Just the practical issue of getting them in the same place at the same time confounds me (although I'm sure we can find a way, see below), much less how to get them into bed while keeping them in character. But if you are inspired... You did say you wanted to take a run at writing some slash. ;)
Let's think really hard. OK?
Absolutely. It has been at the back of my mind ever since we first discussed it. I will continue to consider ways to make it work.
Just think - we could do a variation on those lines from "Brokeback Mountain". Auron looked up slyly, "I ain't queer." He mumbled. Nooj gazed out over the snowy peaks, "Me, neither."
Then they can turn to one another and have at it again. LOL
Oh, g-d. At this rate it would have to be a parody or a broad (?) comedy. It is damn' near impossible to see either of them in slash. I know I have said several times that Nooj is not particular about how he gets his ashes hauled but Auron!? I think that would be even harder to swallow (I cannot seem to avoid these double entendres, sorry) than my obviously very straight lad. Battle boys were always a last resort for Nooj and I am as jumpy as a flea about writing slash since I am sadly ignorant of the mechanics involved. We might have to hire Ry as a consultant, considering both of us are as we are. This is hilarious to even contemplate. LOL

*falls over laughing hysterically* "Gagazet Mountain"?
I know I have said several times that Nooj is not particular about how he gets his ashes hauled but Auron!?
You do realize that Auron is quite possibly the most slashed character in the FFX fandom, despite his butchness? Auron/Jecht, mostly, although I have also seen him paired with Braska and with Tidus (yes, really). Crazy stuff (well, I can sort of see where they get Auron/Jecht).
I am sadly ignorant of the mechanics involved
Ah, that's what "fade to black" is for. :) Or research. That would make for some interesting research. ;)
Ah, that's what "fade to black" is for. :) Or research. That would make for some interesting research.
Or a single rose shedding its petals or a rushing waterfall or a sunrise or this limerick from Isaac Asimov:
A handsome young gay from Khartoum Asked a lesbian up to his room, Where they argued all night Over who had the right To do what and with which and to whom.
Does that count as research?
I did not know Auron had been slashed! I am such an innocent. Yes, I suppose I can see the Jecht possibility although I do not believe it. RyRy claims to see a love interest between Aquelev and Nooj in my latest. I have let it stand because it adds texture to the story and supplies a sort of motivation for later events. Let it be noted, however, I think they are just friends. Nooj is not at all desperate at this time. Heh!
Auron/Tidus sounds like Priest/Altar Boy and is vaguely offensive. With Auron such a revered and legendary figure, the writer has to find some way to de-mystify him before pairing him with one of the next generation. Unless one is writing for the MBL Movement. Do they have a publication?
As to the SF pairings. To the best of my memory, at least some were posted on FFN. Ry might have a list somewhere in her files.
Keep thinking; this is beginning to merge on the possible. LOL
Yes, I suppose I can see the Jecht possibility although I do not believe it.
It is clear that there is strong feeling among the trio of Auron, Braska, and Jecht, so I understand why people write various combinations of them as lovers. It doesn't offend me particularly, although it's not the interpretation I take. Actually I made a conscious choice to keep romantic subtext out of Auron's friendships with Braska and Jecht in AGL. I'm sure a dedicated slasher could still read something there, though, between the lines.
I agree with you that Auron/Tidus is creepy at the very least. And not just because of the age difference -- there's too much of a father/son dynamic (or uncle/nephew might be more accurate) for me to be comfortable viewing them as lovers. I'm pretty tolerant of a lot of things, but I draw the line at incest.
Unless one is writing for the MBL Movement. Do they have a publication?
*snort* *giggle* Fanficcers for NAMBLA! :)
RyRy claims to see a love interest between Aquelev and Nooj in my latest.
Huh. I don't see that, particularly, but I don't *not* see it either (if you take my meaning.) Interesting interpretation.
this is beginning to merge on the possible.</q
Hmm, I am not sure I *want* to see this as particularly possible. (The slash aspect of it, anyway.) ;)
Maybe we could be named as their official scribes and have our efforts promoted by their representatives and organization. It would be one way to achieve our fifteen minutes of fame. LOL
but I draw the line at incest.
I have a problem with most situations in which a more powerful individual takes sexual advantage of an underling, unless it is designed to shed the appropriate light on the relationship and the characters of those thus involved. Even incest could pass the test if it were for a proper reason. For instance, maybe Rikku is an idiot because she is concealing the fact Cid raped her when she was five years old.
I think Nooj would become involved in a same sex relationship if he thought it would be the honourable thing to do. Auron is just about the only one I can think on in the canon who could command his respect to this degree. We must remember Nooj had no close male model after he was orphaned at about six years old and may be somewhat confused about the correct choices. He knew more strong women than admirable men in his very young days. That can make a difference, I think.
Now you have me trying to lay the groundwork for an in-depth story about the two. Hmmmm...
I have a problem with most situations in which a more powerful individual takes sexual advantage of an underling
Yes. Totally agree. So much bad romantic fiction (fanfic and otherwise) just throws people in bed without really thinking about the implications or consequences of power dynamics etc.
Now you have me trying to lay the groundwork for an in-depth story about the two. Hmmmm...
Well, that was the idea, yes? :) I am still not convinced that we could realistically make it into a romance, though.
I am still not convinced that we could realistically make it into a romance, though.
Do you want to start aiming at that AU after Vegnagun adventure with Nooj and Paine instead? We really should reconcile them - yes, I know you did it in an Epilogue - but they still have a lot of baggage to sort out. And we have time to turn over a lot of rocks before either of us is done with our current commitment. I am enjoying the contact with your thoughts again. ;-)
Hmm, a post-Vegnagun adventure would mean bringing Auron back from Farplane. Which can be done, of course, and we wouldn't even need to make it AU since that's after canon is finished. So that's a possibility. I had been thinking more about going completely AU and having them meet up at Operation Mi'ihen. Either before the cave, or perhaps the Crimson crew could run into Yuna's party as they are escaping the cave. Of course, the latter situation has the added complication that Nooj is possessed by Shuyin at the time -- I don't know whether that's a challenge you'd want to tackle in this context. If we set it *before* the cave and take it AU at that point, no reconciliation would be necessary, since Nooj doesn't get possessed by Shuyin and so never shoots Paine and the others. All kinds of directions this could go here....
And we have time to turn over a lot of rocks before either of us is done with our current commitment.
True, although I was seized by the muse last night and stayed up until 2 AM writing, and I got all of the next chapter and a chunk of the following one drafted. And the shape of the story is now clear: that will be it. These two chapters are all that remain. So depending on how the editing goes I could be very close to finished with this. Wow!
Wow indeed. I still have a bit to go. If you are moved to do so, you might rough out some plot possibilities. Since I drove the plot in Confessional, I am inclined to cede the honour and the work to you this time. We have proved we can tolerate one another in the area of adapting so there should be no friction. And, please, no Shuyin possession, not right now. Another thought, the two might meet on the Farplane; no one has any idea what goes on there. It may be a sort of Valhalla for Warriors. I played with that in "After" and had much fun. So many ideas ... Aren't we so very lucky? ;)
I can't believe it's almost done either. And Auron/Nooj? Not something that's entered my mind before, but it's certainly not the most shocking idea I've heard of (ever seen the Harry/Voldemorts?)
An accident of typography, nothing more. (She says, trying to convince herself.)
ever seen the Harry/Voldemorts?
I know that such stories exist but have never read one. The very idea is utterly terrifying. Talk about out of character -- for both of them!
I am reminded of the fiction challenge community ithurtsmybrain. They throw a bunch of names into a hat and pull them out to create random pairings. Then people try to write stories about the "couples". Actually, I've seen some surprisingly good stuff result, although most of it is really bizzare.
They throw a bunch of names into a hat and pull them out to create random pairings
Ry did that on SF. Everyone loved it and some oddly good stories emerged from that as well. I did not participate, being a super-specialist even them.
I think we may be frightening our friend. Sorry, Yuna; we are just brain-storming because we want to do another story together for the sheer fun of it. ;-)
Ooh, no, I find the idea quite fascinating. Not to mention amusing :) Random pairings... Oh, I know! Auron/Yunalesca! **doesn't know whether to gag or laugh**
I'm rather inclined toward Tobli/Kimahri or Rikku/Sin. The latter would get rid of the little nuisance for good and we would not have to put up with her in FFX2. ;)
Ry had a list of about sixty names and used a random generator to do the pairings. Most of the stories were little more than drabbles and relied up some more or less witty plot turns to work. Ask her about them.
