T suggested that I keep an unemployment journal. I thought it was a good idea, so let's try it.

Today is my first day of unemployment (not technically, but as far as my life is concerned it is). So it's weird. Getting up on a weekday, and I don't have to go to work. It's not a holiday, I'm not sick, I don't feel like I'm on vacation, and yet there's no need to head for the office. I suppose I'll get used to the idea eventually -- it's only been one day! not even 36 hours since I left the office for the last time -- but for now it's a strange thought, not working.

So how did I spend my first day of freedom? Well, to start, I hit the exercise bike after breakfast. Getting back into the exercise habit is a big goal of mine during this time, so I figure I'd better start with it right away. Then I ran errands, woo hoo! Really though, it was nice to be able to do that midmorning, without being tied to lunch hour and working around meetings or whatever. Then I dropped by the bookstore to pick up What Color Is My Parachute, which should help me plan my next step when I get started with that, and afterwards just spent some time outside with a book. Just glorious weather today -- it must have been in the high 70s. For March in San Francisco, that's pretty damn nice. If this a sign from the universe that I made the right decision about my job situation, I'll take it. Finally, I spent some quality time this afternoon with my Deep Space Nine DVDs. Really looking forward to finally finishing those -- right now I'm getting into Season 6, the best one IMO.

Tonight was my birthday dinner. A good group, and T was able to come since he worked from home today. The restaurant was pretty good, although some people were happier with their dishes than others. The ambiance was perfect, though -- classy, casual, and not so loud that 9 people couldn't have a conversation. And I get to check another off the SFGate Top 100 List, which is always nice.

Well, I guess that wraps it up for today. Once I get used to the idea, I think I can look at unemployment as an adventure. Right now, though, it's just plain odd.
