This started out as part of a response to a comment, then I decided it was turning into an entry in its own right. Who, me, write something that turns out longer than I originally intended? Never! (This is not something new. I always had to worry more about exceeding paper length limits in college than the reverse.)
Originally, I had been envisioning AGL as a fairly straightforward love story, but as I was writing the early chapters, I got really interested in Auron's friendship/rivalry with Kinoc. So now it's as much about his relationships with other people as it is about his romance with Arelle -- Kinoc and Kal, Braska and Jecht, his sister to a lesser extent, possibly Tidus when we get that far. (There are so many good stories covering the Zanarkand years, though, that I doubt I will spend much time on them.) Those will be tied back to Liss's story also, as much as I can. That's why I brought Kal into the future and created Sam to be a connection between him and Liss. (Although it's also because I like Kal and couldn't bear to give him up! He may actually be my favorite of the original characters, other than Liss of course.)
I had a brainwave on Ch. 22 last night, and it is almost done. But I don't think I'll have time to polish it enough to make it postable before I take off on my trip; the center section is really rough. Look for it early next week, I hope.
