TDS and Colbert returning?

According to several reports, "The Daily Show" and "The Colbert Report" are both going to resume production and start airing new episodes on January 7th, writers or no writers.

It probably shouldn't upset me that one of my favorite shows is coming back on the air, but I'm really not happy about it. Given how strongly both Stewart and Colbert have come out in support of the writers, I can't imagine that this was their choice. But I'm sure they have contracts, and it's either come back or break them. Their joint statement on this announcement:

"We would like to return to work with our writers. If we cannot, we would like to express our ambivalence, but without our writers we are unable to express something as nuanced as ambivalence."

Yeah, somehow that doesn't strike me as very ambivalent.

So I'm not sure what to do. I miss Jon. A lot. Then again, I also miss the writers; there's no way the show will be the same without them. The Hollywood Reporter article (the second link above) suggests that they may go to an all-interview format, which could be done without writers, but I don't know how satisfying that would be. (Also, some actors and politicians have been refusing to cross picket lines, so how many people does that leave to interview?) There's also the fact that I flat-out refuse to watch a strike-breaking production. Even if they run the show without writing any of it, there's no getting around the fact that both Stewart and Colbert are members of the WGA.
