30 Days: On Location
Jul. 26th, 2010 09:56 amUnrelated, but I thought some of you might like to know: I finally gave in and ordered myself a copy of FFVI for GBA. I don't have a GBA, but I have one of the older DS systems that will still play GBA games. I had been planning to hold out for the DS port, but a) the DS port of FFIV was not playable with the stylus, so there's no guarantee that FFVI would have that feature either and b) FFVI has been announced for the 3DS, which I currently have no intention of buying. So GBA it is.
I might be a little excited about this. How long have I been hearing about the awesomeness of this game? I just hope my expectations aren't too high...
Okay, next question:
14. How do you map out locations, if needed? Do you have any to show us?
Not typically needed, since I tend to write in locations established by canon, and anything I have to make up, I can usually keep straight in my head. Although it's looking more likely that I'm going to have to create myself at least a rough map of Rozarria, to keep locations and travel times consistent in my Mega Flare story. (Unless one already exists; my research hasn't dug one up yet, but I could certainly have missed it. Anyone know?)
Fortunately, for my Final Fantasy stories at least, there's an excellent online resource in the form of the Final Fantasy wiki, which is pretty thorough. Maps don't always help, though; FF games are notorious, at least in my mind, for not having any kind of consistency in travel times -- I've twisted my brain in knots trying to figure out distances in Spira, especially. I suppose if the game can hand-wave it, so can I, but I hate doing that; I'm always worried that mistakes will throw people out of the story, which can happen to me as a reader fairly easily, like with any other canon error.
