2018 Reading Goals: Q1 check-in
Apr. 9th, 2018 04:57 pmLet's see how we're doing on these, shall we? As of March 31st, although I'm reading the same book now as I was then, so nothing has really changed.
Even though I'm not on pace to hit all my goals, I'm not hopelessly behind on anything, and its encouraging to see the places where I'm on pace or even pulling ahead. So, onward.
- So far in 2018, I have read 13 books, including five novellas and one short fiction collection. Most of this was Hugo-related reading. By some miracle, this actually has me on pace for finishing the 50 books I was planning to read.
- Of the novels and novellas, five were by authors of color, or 42% (I haven't quite decided how to manage collections in this kind of count, so for now I will leave them out), and three of these authors (JY Yang, Helen Oyeyemi, and Tobias Buckell) were new to me. So that's on pace as well, which is pretty exciting. I hope I can keep it up.
- I've only finished one book off my long-term TBR shelf, Boy Snow Bird by Helen Oyeyemi. This was also supposed to be my Tales from the TBR entry for January, but I disliked the book, and then didn't feel like I had the tools to properly explain why. So I didn't post a review, and then got sucked into more Hugo reading than I planned; as a result, I'm two reviews behind on TftTBR. I don't know if I'll catch up, exactly, but I'm almost finished reading the next book I'm hoping to review for the series so I can at least get back on the horse.
- No graphic novel read in 2018 yet, but I have a bunch piling up. Maybe I can work on those and the TBR at the same time.
