Family history continued
May. 9th, 2021 12:21 amAfter a long break, I picked the family photo scanning project back up. I tackled a new box of photos, from my mom's paternal grandmother; there's some overlap with the giant box from Mom's great aunt, but not a ton, and more pictures of my mom and her siblings as children. So that's been entertaining. There was also quite a bit of non-photo memorabilia in the box, including letters, postcards, newspaper clippings, and -- along with the photos that had been in her wallet, mostly of her son and his children, as well as my mom's only first cousin -- her driver's license from 1962 and a Social Security card issued in 1937, which I think has to be from when the program was first introduced! Another noteworthy find: her high school diploma, from the Oklahoma Territory in 1904 or thereabouts. It was rolled up tightly, along with a note that had apparently been sent by telegram, explaining that one of the lines on the diploma was unsigned, due to the intended signatory having been "hurled into eternity by forces unknown". As euphemisms for death go, that's a pretty flowery one, especially for a telegram.
I still wish Google Photos had better face matching tools, and I also hope I get everything up before the free photo hosting goes away. Still wondering if I should look for a better alternative.
