Long but interesting. Key quotes:

The president of Encyclopedia Britannica on Wikipedia: "Wikipedia is to Britannica as ‘American Idol’ is to the Juilliard School."

The founder of Wikipedia on Britannica: "Wikipedia is to Britannica as rock and roll is to easy listening. It may not be as smooth, but it scares the parents and is a lot smarter in the end."

House of Reps passed that bill I was complaining about the other day, the one that would ban all social networking sites from schools and public libraries. By a vote of 410 to 15. Was there even a pretense of an attempt to understand this issue?

This bit of satire expressed my feelings quite nicely.

Gaaaaaah.

The Bacon of the Month Club

Part of me wishes I were making this up and part of me is really glad that I'm not.

Yes, I am spamming today. No, you can't stop me. Mwa-ha-ha-ha.

Not quite five months at my new job, and I'm really starting to feel like I'm a part of things. Students recognize me and say hello in the halls and in the plaza. They greet me by name in the library, and remember the presentations I gave them. The people who work in the bookstore are happy to see me and wonder why it's been so long since I've dropped by. Today, my business cards came. I have business cards. I was at my last job for a year and I never got them; it was always "later, someday, maybe." But today that big beautiful box arrived and it made me so happy.

It's the litte things, really, that show how I've woven my way into the fabric of the school. It means a lot to me.
